We just recently moved into an old house with an oil furnace. Recently I've noticed a black substance in our noses, then black residue on EVERYTHING in the house. Can this be harmful? Is it normal for an oil furnace to leave this type of residue? Helllppp!!

My housemate is in the habit of turning everthing off when not being used - switching tv off at the wall etc. He also does this with the boiler for hot water / heating. His only reason is because the pilot light is wasting gas. I was wondering if it's worth it.

My husband just got a new (used) car but it smells like someone's old ashtray. He dosen't seem to really notice it but I can hardly stand to be in the car. It's a great car except for the smell. Any suggestions on how to get the odor out would be much appreciated.

I am curious to know if anyone can tell me how a burned out light bulb begins to work again after weeks.
I have 3 can lights on a track, all powered by one switch. A couple of weeks ago, one of the bulbs stopped working and I put off replacing it since two of them worked fine. So today all three lights are working, how does this happen?

Washer fills with water...then nothing. Almost like it has no power yet I can hear it trying to run with an occasional buzzing noise. When I turn the timer, nothing happens. I have an entire load of laundry in a tub of water stinking.

Simply that. How do I get biro marks off leather or artificial leather handbags. They are a light beige colour and I've tried detergent, metho and some other products. Would Ajax ("Jiff") be too harsh? Welcome any ideas. Thanks.

I have a money plant (maybe devil's ivy) which is growing beautifully. I started it from a short clipping I cut from a roadside plant. However when I put new clippings in a container of water to get roots, they are getting all green and slimey. What have I done wrong. What am I supposed to do? Should I put fresh water often. I just top off the water when the level goes down. Can put them in the soil at this stage?

We have our camper close to the house becuse we still need to use it for things. And both are going into the septic. Water is all running in the same pipe. Now when showers are taking in the house, the smell comes in camper. Please help!
