To get rid of cockroaches, you must take away their:
Food
* Keep food in sealed containers or in the refrigerator.
* Paint cabinet shelves and drawers with enamel and keep them clean.
* Rinse all recyclables clean and take them out every few days.
* Put garbage in tightly covered containers and keep them outside.
* Wash dishes, tables, counters and stove tops every day.
* Store flour, sugar, cereal, pasta and crackers in tightly covered plastic or metal containers.
Hiding Places
* Clean out junk and clutter from storage shelves, drawers and closets.
* Don't use shelf paper.
* Get rid of unused furniture, appliances, food and clothing.
* Do home repairs: fill in cracks, seal openings around pipes, and remove chipped paint using care not to make dust if paint contains lead.
* Remove or repair loose wallpaper and plaster.
Water
* Fix all leaks.
* Clean drains.
* Keep all areas clean and dry.
Get Them Out!
Basic steps:
1. Remove clutter.
2. Vacuum well and often. Clean floors, furniture, walls, cabinets, moldings, baseboards, etc. Sponge mopping floors is very useful, too.
3. Wash hard washable surfaces with cleanser (ammonia and water works well).
4. Dust out of sight spaces with boric acid powder. Dust and seal any cracks and openings closed with caulk.
5. Use roach baits near hiding places like behind pictures and wall hangings, under sinks and undersides of furniture.
6. Check for roaches that may still be there with (sticky) glue traps.
Pesticides should be used carefully, and as a last resort. Use the least toxic product that works, follow label instructions and keep out of reach of children and pets. Vacuuming can easily remove many roaches, but it raises dust. A special filter (called HEPA) is available for many brands of vacuums to help control dust. Most roaches will be killed by vacuuming, but it's a good idea to change the vacuum cleaner bag often and dispose of it in a double garbage bag.
KEEP THEM OUT.
* Place screens (insect mesh) in windows.
* Vacuum (or sweep), then sponge mop kitchen floor every week.
* Be sure to mop up all the water.
* Seal cracks and openings with caulk:
o where the wall and the ceiling meet;
o where the wall and the floor meet;
o baseboards;
o door and window moldings;
o splash board at sink;
o inside cabinets.
* Add draft sweeps to bottoms of outside doors.
* Encourage everybody who lives in the building to work together.

There are lots of way to get rid of cockroaches. Most , however dont work. Chemicals are the only sure way. Try not to use boric acid. It takes forever. If you absolutely cant use chemicals buy two or three live chickens and turn them loose. They eat them up like popcorn.

Hope you are in India.
"Lakshman Rekha" a chalk type cockroach killer is available in
the Indian market. When you go to bed draw a line with this where
cockroaches are found. If any cockroach crosses this line it will die. That is why the brand name of this products is named as "Lakshman Rekha" Open all draws of kitchen cabinets etc.
and put off all lights. You will find all cockroaches dead in the
morning.

Hi,
The best way is to mix Boric acid and milk and make it into a thick paste. This paste must be applied to all edges of the platform, shelves, around cockroach-prone areas, cracks in the wood etc. This usually works for around 2-3 months, and then you'll need to repeat the same procedure. Another method is to burn special anti-cockroach incense sticks (you get these in smaller departmental stores). Cover all food, close all windows and doors (keep pets away from that room). Burn the incense stick in the night and by early morning you'll see dead roaches on the floor. Try this 2-3 times in a row - should work to get out the current roaches. Then try the boric-acid method to prevent new roach attacks. Hope it helps!

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them. More information at http://tinyurl.com/ofxkk

By sheer determination only. They need fumigating. Then after a while the eggs that got away will hatch and they will be back. Some places in Amsterdam are infested with cockroaches. Mine was one of them. Was told at the time it was cause of the canal at the back of the house and they would always come back.
I moved after having my flat fumigated three times. They get absolutely everywhere. One even managed to get inside the switch of the espresso machine!
Good luck.

At my old house we had the same problem, and they would keep coming back! Nothing worked until we hired an exterminator and had him come every month to "protect" our house from having them again. We also had to rid of our carpets and buy new furniture. Before the exterminator we tried "bombing", spraying everywhere, and just about everything else you can buy at the local store.

Most people think they come only to dirty places, not true at all. They are actually attracted to food. Make sure you don't leave any food out on our counters or any where in your house.
Clean often to make sure no crumbs are left behind.
Good luck.
