I am curious to know if anyone can tell me how a burned out light bulb begins to work again after weeks.
I have 3 can lights on a track, all powered by one switch. A couple of weeks ago, one of the bulbs stopped working and I put off replacing it since two of them worked fine. So today all three lights are working, how does this happen?

The filiment in the bulb breaks loose on one end and stops working. As the bulb cools the filiment shrinks back and contacts the side it came loose from causing the bulb to work again. This may go on and on till the other end finally breaks also

Sometimes the filament breaks and the light stops. If vibrations or movement of the light fixture can cause the filament to touch again at the break, and the bulb will work again. This is usually very short lived extra life from the bulb, so be ready to replace the bulb soon.

All of the above is possible and probably true.
But also check to make sure you have it screwed in all the way like it should be. A loose bulb in the socket could cause the on off situation that you're experiencing.

The light bulb was never burned out to begin with. Once a light filiment is gone... its gone. You socket or wire may have a loose connection and for whatever reason made contact again.

One explanation, the broken filament has jointed
somehow. We used to do this game with fused
clear bulbs, which used to last for quite some time.

It was probably never broken in the first place. Give it a slight twist when it's off of course. Also, sometimes the filament doesn't come off when it burns out but, when you turn it on the second or third time, that's it.

Most likely the bulb is fine. The socket most likely has the problem.
