The house was built in the 70's (central CA) when I removed the carpet in the hall I found a crack about 1/4 in wide and 10 1/2 ft long. There does appear to be a small crack running in the patio, about even with this other crack. Is this going to make my house fail?

Under a 'Big Brother' databases tax scheme covering home improvements, 'site positive' features like gardens, patios, conservatories, double glazing, scenic views, the number of bedrooms and parking spaces, will all qualify for higher tax bills. The information will be fed into a 'Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal' database - the same 'Big Brother' technology that has been bought for both England and Northern Ireland.

Labour is quietly pushing new laws through Parliament to give council tax inspectors in Northern Ireland the right to enter homes and fine householders up to £1,000 a time, plus up to £200 every day after that, if they do not allow the inspectors into their homes, or fail to 'assist' the tax snoopers when inside their properties.

People have condemned the Government as "greedy and oppressive" after plans emerged to give a new army of council tax inspectors powers to enter private homes and penalise residents who refuse to co-operate with fines of £1,000 or more.

Im not asking for the best brands, Im asking for the best technique. I already add a bunch of softener, which does help, but I want my laundry to smell even better.

How do I get into the habit of keeping the house clean, without getting sick of it? When I get sick of it, I stop doing it, and then hubby gets mad. Help?

My lot is 0.8 of an acre. I can only afford $50K and I am wondering whether it is possible to have a house built out on my lot for less than that, using a construction company.

Down at the bottom, in the drain hole. The plant needs to be put into a larger pot, but I'm scared to do it! Any suggestions?

I got some engine oil on a cotton blazer. How would I get the stain out? It's dry clean only, due to the lining, but I'm currently traveling. Thanks!

I live in a townhouse without a basement so the laundry room is on the main floor. On the other side of the wall is the kitchen. We started having flash floods about 6 months after we moved into the house. We thought it was the washer so we bought a new one. It wasn't the washer because the leak came back. We've tried to shove a hose down the drain and flush it out which worked for about 2 weeks, but now it's back to leaking. Anyone have any ideas??? Roto-rooter is scheduled for Friday, but I'd like to save money if it's just a clogged drain and I can fix it myself.

Okay, I live in a mediocre apartment complex. There are three employees. The main manager guy, the girl in the office, and the one maintenance guy. Notice no mention of on-call, emergency, or security.

I'm married and have two small children. We're pretty quiet folks. When we moved to our building, the people surrounding us were pretty quiet folks, too. Then about 1 1/2 months after we moved, the arpartment below us and the one beside us both were rented to.... well, let's just say, they are not pretty quiet people.

They play music that freakin makes our entire apartment vibrate. I had a plate fall off the counter based solely on their Tejano music being played at volumes we couldn't escape. They are fans of subwoofers. They apparently have no obligations to wake up early, since fun lasts past 2:30 AM all week.

And we're told that if we want to pay another $350 deposit and all moving costs, we can escape them and stay on property.

DOES THIS SEEM SCREWY TO ANYONE ELSE????
