Granite is what seems to be the current trend right now in high end houses. If you are looking for a possible resale value then definitley go granite. My husband and I flip houses and when we do granite it tends to add 15 - 20k more to the sale price. We also are very good shoppers and have found a local granite store that costs half the price of what you would spend on corian at let's say a Lowe's or Home depot. Not only is granite beautiful but also very durable. Shop around for wholesale stores. Most wholesale stores will also offer very inexpensive installers. Also , if you want to go even cheaper with almost the same effect, you could do granite tiles. Although nothing beats slab! Good luck!
