I have several mums in pots that I used to decorate around an old tractor, straw, and pumpkins. I read that if they're in the ground, they'd be ok, but if in pots to trash them. Is there anyway I can plant them in a flower bed so they'll survive for next year? If so, is this something I'd have to do before the ground temp fell too much?

When in regen mode, my heat pump puts out a musty smell, like between wet saw dust and dirty socks. I heard it can be caused by mold on the coils. Anyone with ideas how to get rid of the odor?

Does anyone know which mathematical formulas are used to calculate heating requirements in a house?

I need to work out a figure, in KW/h or BTU, taking into consideration:

i) total volume of all rooms & corridoors to be heated
ii) daily hot water requirement
iii) number of radiators
iv) insulation in house, or lack thereof

Thank you in advance xx

If so, please let me know how you landed there. It seems like a dream of a lot of people I know - but I don't know many people who have actually achieved it.

We recently moved to a house with well water. Its a night mare. The toilets are orange, the tubs, washer, etc etc. WE bought a filter to put on main water line, and I have a filter on my shower head. My blonde hair is turing orange and looks so awful. The buildup in my hair is crazy. Anyone deal with this or know what to do>?

Find it cool most of the time. Don't want to put a lot of heat on as cost will increase because geothermal plus electric heat will come on.

Here on Long Island, NY, I'm concerned about equipment stored in my garage- compressor, pressure washer and mosquito magnet. It's my first year here, should I worry about the temperature in my garage dropping below freezing? I don't think the one car garage is insulated. I just installed a dedicated 20 amp circuit to the garage. It is attached to my house, but only has an exterior entrance. It's impractical to bring this equipment into the basement. Any advice?

I have been gradually losing my St. Augusting lawn over the past several years and now it appears too late to save it. I suspect a bad soil condition and lack of sun and at this point I feel it may be best to start over. I have no idea what the cost would be. Would welcome any opinions or suggestions. Thanks - Bob (Elrod)

I have been a housewife for 22 years. I have totally lost my motivation to clean house. I don't know maybe it has to do with depression or maybe it has to do with the fact that I don't get much help from my kids. Two of them are in college so they are busy with homework, work and activities. Maybe it has to do with the fact that no one ever comes to visit anyway. So if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it. I just cannot seem to find any enthusiasm. Could it be because of the colder, greyer weather?

I bought six mail order Butterfly Bushes. I transplanted them to slightly larger pots and they a now about 8 to 10" tall. I understand they are to be pruned back in the fall but don't know if I should prune these small plants back.

Also, I live in South Florida and want to know if I sshould keep them in pots until spring or should I plant them in the ground.

Thanks for your help!

ok, i recently moved into a new house. Being an eighth-grader, i REALLY don't know if my owner is unfair or not. I heard my parents talking about it, and got a bit worried. This may sound stupid, but i really am. Sooo.. one thing i've noticrd is that we do NOT have cable on our TV. We ordered cable, and the TV guy came to our house to get it in, but he said that thecord coming out of the wall was too short and that we would have to lengthen it to get cable. we asked the owner to pay, because SHE was the one who had cut it short, but then she said it was OUT responsibility, so that we should pay, since we live in the house now. and yesterday, when three blinds on our windows fell off, and last week, when the microwave practically exploded on us, with a broken handle, and we noticed that six (!!!) of the upstairs lightbulbs were burnt out, the filter system on our AC was dirty, and last but not least, the shower door fell on me. and it's HEAVY. she's refusing to pay for all of it.unfair?

I live in southern Louisiana and the weather has gotten a bit cooler. Meaning, 50s inthe evening and and average of about 75 inthe afternoon. During the warmer months wasps began flying in and out of my BF broke down motorcycle. I was the only one that has seen these wasps. He doesnt think they exist. anyway....this morning after a cool 54 degree evening I see about 15 wasps suffering to death on my patio where they used to hang out. No-one has tried to kill them. In fact, until this morning, I have not seen them for about 2 weeks.
I have a rose bush.....several mums.....and ivy growing around where the motorcycel is parked.
Does the chilly weather do this to them? Will the warmer weather revive them?
Sorry if this sounds dumb, its just really weird.

I have leaky or porus masonry walls. I'm not sure if it's the brick or the mortar. Bricklayers say it is the brick. The brick people say it's the mortar. They leak at the top of the windows. I have used a professional waterproofing solution about 3 years ago. I am concerned that it has broken down, but will still repel the new sealer. Any suggestions besides setting it on fire?

My husband and I are handy with repairs and enjoy doing things ourselves when we can. We're thinking about replacing a few rotting boards on an old porch but we have no experience there. How difficult, generally, would such a repair job be for talented (ahem!) amateurs like us? Or should this be an experts-only undertaking? Thanks.
