Honestly, when I was in the Navy, we used to get this stuff called 'bug juice', which is really just powdered Hawaiian Punch, or something to that effect (it was a drink mix). when we poured that in the toilets to get the lime out of the bowls from the ship being down for a while, it ate the lime right off of the bowls in about five minutes.

My guess is that it had some sort of acidic compound in it that, when mixed with water, had that sort of reaction.

Some things you might consider are -

Baric Acid - you can pick this up in your local hardware store. It is used to clean garage floors before painting them. Be careful, it will burn you - use rubber gloves, a mask over your nose, goggles, etc. Be safe.

Or, find some generic punch mix in your local grocer - something with citric acid in it, and pour that in your bowl. Leave it for a while, and when you come back, the icky stuff should be gone!!

Good luck!

Try pouring a cup or so of bleach into the water and leave it sit for several hours, then using a toilet brush scrub it being careful not to splash the water in your face.

I've tried everything also, you'll have to get a pumice stone. It might be a little more work than you wanted, but when your done your toilet will look like new again. The pumice stones are only $2 at Wal-Mart.

These are great ideas.

Before you do any of them, though, dump a bucket of water in the bowl so that it empties and you can access the stains without going through the water.

Good Luck.

Try a can or two of coke. Seriously. Pour the coke in and let it set. Then scrub. Also those eraser pads that have come out are handy on porcelain tubs or toilets.

You can try using a Pumice stone. They work great on hard calcium stains that are difficult to remove. Warning! You have to use some elbow grease to make it work (scrub).

commercial cleaner called Santeen - green and white bottle.

Local True Value should be able to order it if not in stock - otherwise, a plumbing supply wholesaler should have it.

this product works the best!
