Find it cool most of the time. Don't want to put a lot of heat on as cost will increase because geothermal plus electric heat will come on.

Geothermal H/P systems will only generate approx. 110 discharge air on their refrigeration cycle which is approx. 30 degrees below a fossil fuel fired unit. Your t-stat is probably 2 stage heat (w1 and W2 terminals) with w2 being your electric back-up.

Typically there is a 2-3 degree buffer between w1 (H/P) and w2 (electric). If your space temp is 65 and raise the t-stat to 70, you have exceeded the 2-3 degree buffer and 2nd stage electric comes on. The trick is to move temp up slowly by 1-2 degrees at a time.

If you are handy, you could install a seperate t-stat for just the elctric back-up as a fal-safe in case the H/P crashes.

In regards to set-back temp, with a geothermal h/p system, there is not much to realize because of the time it takes to heat the space.
Try increasing humidity levels at a lower temp as well.

Newt.

I think the trick would be to slowly raise the temperature so you will use only the geotherm heating and not the heat strips. A good time to bump the temperature up is when the heatings has cycled and just turned off.

My house is comfy at 70. that is a bit higher than when i had gas heat. I figure because of the relatively warm temperatured air produced by geothermal heater rather than hot air from gas heat.

Remember it is very difficult for a geothermal to warm up a cold house, so I tend not to turn it down much if I wont be home.

Room thermostats vary in how accurate they are. The best ones are the electronic no contact type. Also the position is really critical. With some room stats a cold draft from a door being opened will bring the heating on. Check the manufacturers instructions and make sure you have your stat in the right position and at the right hight. Hope this helps
