When in regen mode, my heat pump puts out a musty smell, like between wet saw dust and dirty socks. I heard it can be caused by mold on the coils. Anyone with ideas how to get rid of the odor?

Very possible, however if your system is sized correctly you should not have any mold problem.

Check the condensate drain line to see if it is plugged up. Check the air filter, a low air flow will cause mold to grow.

Spray your coils with a solution of bleach and water.
