I have been a housewife for 22 years. I have totally lost my motivation to clean house. I don't know maybe it has to do with depression or maybe it has to do with the fact that I don't get much help from my kids. Two of them are in college so they are busy with homework, work and activities. Maybe it has to do with the fact that no one ever comes to visit anyway. So if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it. I just cannot seem to find any enthusiasm. Could it be because of the colder, greyer weather?

Taking on a part-time job outside the home or even some volunteer work can sometimes lift the depression and give you motivation to do more. You need something more than what you are doing right now. Find something you enjoy (even a little) and the creative juices will begin to flow again and you'll find even more that excites you. Remember, the less you do, the less you'll want to do. And the same holds true for the opposite. The more you do, the more you'll want to do. Good luck.

I think that the others have a great idea. But... let's say that you don't want to have a makeover.

Holidays are coming up. Tell your family that you do not want any presents save one.

A clean house.

House cleaners are available and will be an incredible investment.

Get out of the house and improve someones life. Just for today, be charming with everyone you interact with. It will flow back on you and lift your spirits.

Volunteer, if you feel you have no marketable skills, give your time away. You will build skills and get outside of yourself.

Have EVERYONE in your house take half a day off on the weekend and work together on a project. (See above clean house)

It sounds like depression and seeing your doctor may help as well as some of these practical steps.

Good Luck.

There are always things you don't want to do or are not motivated to do in life. These things include eating right, exercising, paying taxes, and cleaning house. The best way to deal with them is to make them part of your lifestyle. If you set aside a certain amount of time for that activity and commit yourself to do it without thinking about too much then you will.

Imagine it's like dropping off your kids and then picking them up, it's just something that has to be done. You can either have a positive attitude or a negative one about it. If you choose to have a positive attitude about it then you will not have as much trouble with it. But, be warned you have to do something consistently until it becomes part of your lifestyle and you just don't think about it anymore.

You have to clean for yourself. You want to exist in a clean and healthy enviornment, don't you? Have a glass of wine, put on some music, open up the shades and the windows, take a good look around you and imagine how nice it would feel if everything was in order. You will bring a sense of balance to your living space when it is neat and clean. When you keep an unkept home, it is a reflection of you, and you will never experience peace. You must keep your home in order for your own "peace of mind". You'll feel a whole lot better when you do. And don't try to do everything at once. Pace your cleaning activities. You don't have to do everything at the same time. If you don't pace your self, you'll wear yourself out and you will not want to clean. Try to remember how wonderful you'll feel when you're floating through a beautifully kept home. Also, remember, the change in season is not excuse for not cleaning house. We have change of seasons for a reason, and it is all good. With the change in season, you might want to change your color scheme in your house, add fall like decorations, open the windows more so you can appreciate the beauty of the cloudy days as well as the sun shining days. Since its gettings colder, get a new afgan to throw over a chair so you'll have it when you're all stuggled up reading a book on one of those cloudy days. Look for the good in life, not the bad. And in regards to your children, help them to be responsible adults, make sure they clean up after themselves. If you don't you'll resent the fact you have to do it and you'll be in the same "funk" again. And remember your home is your home, not just for visitors, make it nice for yourself. Have a cup tea and put things in perspective. I can see you now relaxing at the kitchen table making plans now. Have a good day

Try this: Before you clean, set aside a new area in you house that is a beautiful little space for only you. Make it pretty, with a basket, some nice magazines, and a fruit bar and drink that you love. Make sure it is decorated just the way you love it.

After you have done that, then clean and keep reminding yourself that this space is yours after you finish housework. Go there after working and reward yourself by resting and reading.

You might even put a scented candle and shower gel there to use in a nice hot bath later.

i imagine that many people (myself blanketed) seek for motivation from outdoors sources which comprise song, mid replacing aspects, or people. this stuff and different outdoors sources make one depending on others and different issues with the intention to flow round in existence, that's no strong in my opinion. i imagine the examine, authentic motivation comes from the self that's below each and every of the concepts and feeling we journey which extremely ward off us and infrequently sap our motivation. once you imagine about a time that you had to do some thing you probably did not extremely elect to do and felt you probably did no longer have the actual skill till you listened to a particular song and without caution you stumbled on the skill to finish the interest you do not forget that a strong deal of our perceived weak spot is contained in the concepts. If outdoors issues can inspire us then outdoors issues may also slow us down. i imagine that the aspect to artwork on is motivation from interior of, and probably no longer a lot motivation as awareness- that concepts can conquer maximum of what we % out to be protecting us back interior this form of tiredness or lethargy, or perhaps melancholy.

it could be the weather, it could be your run down, or stuck in a rut, routine day in day out duties, maybe your not appreciated, depression, lots of factors!
why dont for one day you say to the hell with everything and jump in the car and go to a day spa? spend a whole day just by yourself, or do what you want to do for a change. there must be something you have wanted to do but havent.Your kids are not really kids if they are in college so im sure they can feed themselves dinner for one night!
Maybe if your not there for that night to provide them your services they may smarten up and help you a bit more. Im sure a little appreciation will go a long way. I hope you have a great day if you choose to do it and i hope you can smile!
Take care, and turn off your mobile when you choose a day as its for you only!

I hear you sister!!!

Here's my little trick for myself. I tell myself I only have to clean for 10 minutes and I set the timer on the stove. I decide, OK sure I can do that for 10 minutes. Then I work my butt off. Occasionally I stop when the timer goes off, but usually I have dived right in to a "project" by then and I am too Type A to quit.

Good Luck to you.

PS I do cheat though and have a cleaning lady that crubs my bathrooms and kitchen and wood floors.

As we get older, I think our priorities change. I've not held an actual 'job' since May and you'd think my house would be spotless. But no.... I am bored with housework and I, like you, get NO help at all from my husband or my one son who, like yours, has a job, goes to college (age 25). I do light housework when I absolutely can't stand it anymore, but I'd rather be out and about!!! I will be returning to work very soon, so I really need to get on the ball. If you need a bud, email me (see 360 page)

Simple solution... get into sports, become a fan of a team (or teams if you want). This doesn't require being physically active or anything if you're wondering, just supporting a team... the activity that goes along with it from Fantasy Leagues where you pick certain players and go through ups and downs with them as if you were their agent or coach due to their performance OR going to games if there are professional sports teams in your general area... that's got to be the best way to experience "your" team.
