Call the city's Building inspector's office and ask for the information, or look it up on line in the city government web site.

Many cities have public code or building codes on their websites. Cook County may have it if the city of Chicago doesn't. One plus to using a reputable, licensed plumber or installer to do this is it will be to code.
If you don't, be sure to test with soap and water for leaks, as this could be a REAL bad situation if you have a pinprick leak that isn't discovered.
