I agree about the golden and deeper yellows, also by adding natural elements it creates a very soothing, peaceful, cozy atmosphere. If you had kind of a mustard/golden yellow walls and a red couch , you could accent with maybe a darker ( Black , Dark Brown, Iron) vase with just long green grasses , or a large plate(depending on the color of the table I would again recommend darker colors) with sand stones, river rocks etc . . and a lighter color candle on an end table or coffee table, also blankets or throws with a welcoming texture and pleasant color can warm up any area.

for a more finished look you can match the couch color and use it as a trim paint various places around the room (nearer the celing) to bring the color further into the room, and also think about getting new tie backs for your curtains (in the red). For a neutral wall color match your painted cream tables and if you know how, use another cream glaze sponge effected over it. The other mentioned Butter color is a great neutral suggestion also. If you want to go stronger, try kacki, rust, or a light shade of sage / witch hazel. (sable / espresso will also make a great color to add as a accent) Ultimately, have fun with it... if you like a color and it makes you feel good go for it, and you don't always have to paint all of a wall or even all the walls of a room. *I did a space a couple years ago that I had painted 2 colors - very tall diamonds on the wall spaced about 1 1/2 ft. apart and it broke the wall up great as, well as made the cheap (what i could afford) picture frames (more importantly what was in them) look like a very finished that got attention instead of just some big ol wall with a few pictures nobody stopped to look at on it.

I would paint it in a buttercup color or something in the golden yellow family. Then I would put some pillows on the couch that are of plaid with the cream, yellow and red. It will look so warm, rich and embracing.

I would love to have you paint it a very soft Green, this would compliment the red without clashing.
