This afternoon I had a cavity filled near the front of my mouth.. and now a small area above the filling (on the gum) is black/brown-ish.

I know it was a composite filling (whatever that means?) I tried brushing my teeth, flossing, rinsing.

Will this ugly looking spot go away soon?! Should I call my dentist?

I don't want to smile now.. =(

I have some serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies... Calcium and vitamin D are the most deficient. I take a ton of supplements. yet this problem has gotten to the point where I can't eat the way I need to be eating. I have talked to my doctors about this and finding a dentist who is both patient and not going to cost me 20, 000 bucks... to have my mouth taken care of.... any suggestions would be most helpful ... I have semi stained (yellow) teeth. I'd like to get my teeth whiter. I'd also like to have my two front teeth because they are too long because of bonding. I don't want to have four or six fake looking bright teeth on top though and the rest look even more yellow.

I had braces for just over 5 years, and I have now been braces-free for about 1 1/2 years. I have a permanent retainer cemented on the back of my bottom teeth, but I have a normal removable retainer for my top teeth.

My question is, will my teeth ever stay put if I don't wear my retainer? I wear it only at night, but if I skip a night or two I start getting a gap between my two front teeth! Will I have to wear my retainer every night for the rest of my life???

About a week ago, I went to the dentist for a cleaning. They said there were several "small" cavities that they had to touch up. Does this mean they're going to put a sealant on or actually fill them in? Also, I've had several fillings in the past without Novocaine because I was afraid to get one. The drill was absolutely HORRIBLE. However, the last time I went, I asked for the shot. I didn't even really feel the shot, and it was SO much less painful. I'm really concerned because I'm not sure if the cavities are in the same region as previous ones. I also don't know how many they're going to fill. Will I need more than one shot? Does the shot hurt if they're towards the front of my mouth? AHHH!

I often drink water with lots of fresh lemons in it....I know the acid from lemons can erode tooth enamel so is there a chance of this happening from the water?

Hello everyone -

I've noticed on some of my teeth they look longer or my gums have receded. This is mostly on the lower front teeth and is likely due to aggressive brushing since I really don't have this problem on other teeth. I also have noticed one tooth is loose on the front lowers, and I don't know if it's due to gum recession or if that's because my teeth has become crowded due to wisdom teeth coming out.

Is the loose tooth more likely a result of gum recession? is the loose tooth more of a result of overcrowding? Will soft tissue grafting help out with this and other front lower teeth where the gum has receded?

And finally, how much does this cost without insurance? Thanks in advance for your help...

My dentists says that a crown he put in about 10 years ago is a little loose and that he wants to investigate by pulling it off. Does not seem loose to me, but I don't want to force it. He indicated that worse case he may have to extract tooth or replace crown ($1000+, insurance may only pay half). Tooth has never caused me any problems since crown was put on.

To anyone with dental expertise, what is my recommended course of action? Should I start a process which could result in a extraction of a tooth which is not causing me problems? Or spend alot of money on a crown replacement. If tooth is extracted, then what?

I am somewhat concerned that he may be "drill prone". For example, I still have my wisdom teeth in (I'm 47). My former dentist recommended doing nothing because they have never caused me problems. My current dentist suggests that I have them removed, which I have resisted. Why undergo expensive, painful dental surgery for something that causes no pain?

I work very hard, but dont have any dental insurance. My teeth need major work. I would love to smile again. I work in sales and my confidence it low. My little boy passed away last summer and my self esteme is very low. It would help me a great deal to get my teeth fixed. I can make payments and would love for someone to answer my prayers. Thank you.

Two weeks ago part of my tooth broke exposing the filling. My dentist removed the filling, then replaced it and repaired the break with a Ceric cap. How long will it hurt to chew on this new cap?

I have a back molar with an amalgam filling that I had replaced last week with a white filling. It appears to me that a thin line of the amalgam filling was left behind, as I can see it between where my tooth stops and the white filling begins. Also, the filling color is a 'yellowed' white and does not match the natural color of my tooth. Am I being picky here, or should the visible line of silver be gone, and the filling match more closely with my natural color on the molar? Thanks in advance!
