About a week ago, my boyfriend started complaining about his gums and jaw being sore. He's 24 and his wisdom teeth are just now starting to come through so that's what we thought was causing the pain. Now I'm not so sure. His gums are still really swollen. He can barley open his mouth to eat because his jaw is so stiff. He says that his throat and tongue hurt too. He also says that the pain is now in his ear as well. Pain meds don't seem to help him much and I hate it that I can't help him. I've begged and pleaded with him to go to the dentist, but he just wont do it. I had pain when my wisdom teeth were coming in...but nothing like this. Does this sound like something that happens when your wisdoms are cutting through? Or, could it be an infection? I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions for the pain? Thanks so much.

I was rushed to the hospital in massive pain....they had me on morphine for over 5 hours....after a cat scan and a few other test they couldn't see what was causing the swelling....Today I woke up after a rough night realizing that it is indeed an abscess tooth. My wisdom tooth. I sadly don't have insurance and need to pay cash for an oral surgeon.
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much it would be to pay cash for an oral surgeon to extract a tooth.

I am on antibiotics, Ibprofen, and percoset right now to lessen the swelling....so I am just wondering the pricing so I can save and be ready for it.

Thank you.

I read on a newswire that a 12-year old boy died as a result of an abcess in one of his teeth. Apperently the abcess travelled all the way to his brain. How can this be possible? I also read that some Egyptian pharoahs experienced this and this type of tooth decay lead to their demise. Luckily, I read too that this type of phenomenon is rare. If someone has any insight as to how this is possible, please let me know. I have children I take regularly to the dentist for checkups, but if one of them were to complain of a toothache I'd cringe at the thought of what may happen. I'd take them immediately to the dentist to take care of the problem. I guess this too can serve as something someone too can learn from this post. I'd appreciate any answers. Thanks.

anyone else's dentist use fentanyl to get all 4 wisdom teeth taken out? he said he was going to use that and it kinda freaked me out, its 80 times more powerful that morphine, and 50 times more powerful than heroin. I read online it can be used instead of an anesthesia? anyone know anything about this thanks.

I've heard that it has something to do with interfering with calcium absorption. Can you confirm or deny or add to that?

I know a CDA can work in any state and an RDA can only work in the state they are registered in , but other than that, whats the difference. What can an RDA do that a CDA can't?

Hello, I'm supposed to get my wisdom teeth out, but I have significant concerns about the medications to be used. The oral surgeon keeps trying to convince me to use either general anesthesia or heavy sedation saying "it'll be better and easier for both of us!" so he must be thinking that I'll get very anxious before surgery or whatever, but that's simply not the case. I know that I look somewhat frail as a 15 year old girl, but I have an oddly high tolerance for anxious situations and pain. (I had my bikini area lazered off [laser hair removal] and the technician said she's never seen anyone say that they couldn't really feel it.... most say that it's worse than childbirth.) Anyway, he wants to give me Varcet and Fentanyl, and the Varcet (last time I took it) made my heart rate go up to 187 bmp and my blood pressure to drop VERY VERY LOW, like 70/45, and I'm allergic to almost all narcotics.

Would the sedation/general anesthesia do anything for PAIN or just anxiety?

What do you do when you have a toothache or other dental problem and dentists don't take payments? Also, no $$ on credit card available.

What do people on Medicare do for dental care?
What about people on Public Aid? Do you think that dental care should be included on health care reform?

Hopefully there may be a dentist out there who can help. My hubby has had bad teeth forever, they break really easily, are crooked and quite badly discoloured. In the past he has had loads removed and is now missing a lot on the top at the front so when he smiles he has a huge gap. When he was an NHS dental patient numerous dentists refused to remove them and replace with dentures but he is now wondering if he registered as a fully private patient can he insist on having the remaining ones out and replaced with false? Serious answers only please as this is a delicate matter and causes him distress. Thanks

I'm starting to feel the pain, the numbness has worn off, I need to ask some questions from people who know. I'm hungry, what should or can I eat? Can I drink my beer, lol? I know I can't smoke, i'm not going to do that even though I want a cigarette really bad They gave me hydrocodone and amoxicillin, I should go ahead and take those to help the pain, mainly i just want to know what I should eat and if I can drink my beer.

I am having my two front crowns redone and the temporaries are not exactly the way I want my new crowns to look, example, the line down the middle not perfectly centered (stuff like that). Should I have the dentist perfect the temporaries and make a new impression before he sends it to the lab?

I have a broken tooth. I was chewing gum and heard a "crunch." I was puzzled. When I got home, I spit out part of my molar. YIKES! The dentist asked me what I wanted to do. I want it fixed. I don't want a hole.

What's better? What's more economical? Getting the tooth removed and having a partial made? Or having it filled and capped?

I have an autoimmune disease process in full swing right now. Causes caries, thrush and a number of other things. I have fractures all through my teeth....Maybe I should have them all removed! Lol....JK.

the dentist gave me a teeth guard type thing for like my upper teeth, its a mouth piece type thing but just for the top ones, to put on so my top teeth dont grind against my bottom teeth, becuz he said i am wasting away my teeth, so this thing prevents it, but anyway, my question is is their a bowl type thing, or a combo of things i can buy, so i can just dip the piece in every single morning and leave it there rinsing till i put it on again in the night??? some kinda rinsing/cleaning system to keep it from getting bacteria n stuff?

thanks in advance
