anyone else's dentist use fentanyl to get all 4 wisdom teeth taken out? he said he was going to use that and it kinda freaked me out, its 80 times more powerful that morphine, and 50 times more powerful than heroin. I read online it can be used instead of an anesthesia? anyone know anything about this thanks.

Actually now adays the oral surgeons and other surgeons are using fentanyl and versed to put people out before surgery. They are doing alot of surgeries in office, and you can go home within 15-30 minutes after. The best thing is you don't have to be intubated. Your not really out, you can respond to commands given. Its perfectly safe and believe me you don't feel a thing nor will you remember anything. Good luck

I'm an oral surgery assistant. Yes we use a cocktail of fentanyl, midazolam and ketamin to put the patient under . I guess the one of the reason why oral surgeon use fentanyl because it's very effective and easy to reverse the drug. meaning if something is wrong we can wake you up quickly by reversing the drug with noloxone and also beside all those drugs they give you to go to sleep, they will still numb you up by using local anesthetic unless you are allergic to local anesthesia. I think overall fentanyl is safer than using irreversible drug.

It is not more powerful than morphine and not sure about heroin. Not sure how he will administer it as it usually comes in patch form and takes about 12 hours before it really starts getting effective. I would ask your dentist more about this.

short term pain relief it is fine. Long term, it is very addicting. when you get your four teeth removed, you will be glad that you have it. I had it for over a year when I had a botched surgery and I am off and fine now. Don't worry about it.

if you don't trust your surgeon, seek a 2nd opinion. there is nothing wrong with that.
