My dad is a dentist and I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out at once. I also did the IV, you will be fine you will not remember any of it! First of all they give you a little nitrous gas to help you get relax, then they give you the IV, by the time they get to the IV you will not feel it. I am not scared to go the dentist (can't be when it's dad) however I HATE needles! Trust me if I did not feel the stick then you won't. I cannot STRESS enough to you TAKE A PAIN PILL THE SECOND YOU GET HOME DON'T WAIT FOR THE PAIN TO COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have someone fill your perscriptions and start taking the medicine right away! If you wait for the pain even the meds are not going to take all of it away. Clean your mouth follow their after care instructions, you do not want to get a dry socket, they hurt. Also make sure you take all of the anitbodtics again keeps the open wound healthy and keeps dry sockets from forming. I had no issues, felt nothing and the wholes have healed. Trust me it is better to have them out I am glad that I did good luck!

This is the best way to have it done.
If you are knocked out you are aware of nothing but you will get more bruising, especially on your chest.
The reason for this is that the dentist needs a lot of leverage to remove teeth, particularly wisdom teeth. Often, if you are knocked out, the dentist will kneel on your chest to pull harder against the tooth.
If you are only sedated the dentist can't kneel on you (obviously, cos you'd punch him!) so you get less bruising because he is gentler.
The downside is that you may be aware of what is happening even if you feel no pain.
As for what sedation feels like, you will probably feel like you are very drunk and 'out of it'. I saw footage of a woman who was having dental work under sedation. She spent the whole time jabbering away to the dentist about a dress she'd bought and how it made her boobs look huge. She didn't remember any of it afterwards!
I'm sure the dentist is used to it though!
Good luck!

IV sedation is great in that you are sedated during the procedure and the dentist can take you as deep as he/she wants. You may remember bits n pieces(depending on the drug used) but you shouldnt feel any pain. IV sedation is also really good because you can recover so quick after the procedure unlike GA. Again depends on type of sedation.

Yes, I've had 2 teeth pulled out under IV sedation. I felt like I went to sleep and woke up and everything was done! Its such a cake walk! I promise. Its easier to have it done with the sedation than to be awake. Make sure you eat something before you take your pain medication after the procedure or you'll get nauseated. I know its scary to "go to sleep", I was REALLY scared, but I couldnt believe how easy it was to do it that way...TRUST ME!!

I've never had this done myself but I was a Dental Nurse.
When you're under sedation you will feel a little groggy and drowsy. When it comes to the actual extraction, they'll probably give you some local anaesthetic so you shouldn't feel any pain, you may feel a little tugging and pulling but it shouldn't hurt.
I hope it goes well.

I just had mine taken out yesterday. I did what you yourself are doing. I looked on the internet for how other people had to deal with it, and what they went through. I got myself all nervous and was actually ready to reschedule from what I had read. Instead I went in yesterday, and they hooked me up to an iv. They told me they were going to relax me, so gave me a slight injection, and boom I was out. Dont remember a thing. All I remember is waking up from what felt like to be 10 seconds later and I was done. NO pain. NO swelling. Nothing. All those horror stories were not true for me. I was perfectly fine. And I could talk. I was even yelling a couple hours later while I was joking with my friends. It is now a day later, and I still have no pain, no swelling, and no bleeding. My wisdom teeth bled for like 10 minutes. Don't beleive everything you read. Trust me. I had all four taken out. Two fo them were impacted and one was totally cracked at the gumline. Only thing that sucks is that you cant eat much the first day. lol.

i had 4 wisdom teeth taken out under sedation a few years ago. they give you local anaesthetic injections round the teeth first. you dont remember anything afterwards. it will hurt once the locals wear off as with any extraction so have some good strong painkillers ready. its the best way as you dont have the bad effects of a general anaesthetic.

That's good that you are getting the pain over all at once rather than waiting to pull each individually cause it will hurt even more. But you won't feel it when they're are doing it. And after, they'll give youl 3-4 days worth of pain killer, but I suggest you ask for more.

As long as you are " out " you don't feel a thing.
when the procedure is finished, the next day will be painful.
Take Tylenol or they will prescribe you a strong dose for the pain and alternate a heat pack then cold pack for the next few hours. This helps elevate any bruising
