I have had to have two teeth pulled in three weeks. The dentist just says that there is an infection and it will stay there until we find the source of the infection. There were two back molars and were very painfully pulled. He didn't perscribe any antibiotics this time because he said it was just a small infection and that usually goes away on its own after the tooth is pulled. I am looking for another dentist but what can I do to prevent any more teeth being pulled because of this so called infection? I had to have them pulled because it only cost 170-245 to pull, it was 1700 for a single root canal. I hardly have enough to pull a tooth. I need what teeth I have left. Could another dentist have done something different? It hurt like *** when he pulled both the last teeth and he just said that's what happens when they are infected. What should I do?

Last night, I found that I have chipped the front corner of one of my front teeth off. I have no idea how it happened. There's now no enamal (sp?) on that bit of tooth and I am worried that it will be rotted away. Should I go to the dentist asap? What can he do to fix this problem?
I would go to see the dentist right now but I haven't got enough money to pay for any treatment. But if it is a serious problem or could lead to a serious problem, I'll have to find it from somewhere.

It took his dentist an hour to pull out his tooth and it was the most excruciating pain he had ever felt. Imagine the torture scenes from the movie Hostel. What would you do to convince somebody to to to a dentist again?

I have a permenant retainer put on 4 years ago after having my braces taken off. The retainer is on the back of my upper and lower front 5 teeth. The retainer makes it very difficult to take care of my hygene and flossing has become nearly impossible even with the threading floss stuff and now im having problems with bleeding and receding gums. My question is should I have the retainer removed? Will my teeth go back to the way they where pre braces? can I replace it with a removable retainer? Any help would be appreciated.

My dentist says he doesn't recommend periodontists who are associated with Monarch. The only periodontist which is in my MetLife dental network is with Monarch Dental.

I was talking to my babysitter and she was telling me that her friends daughter (3 years old) has pits in some of her teeth. She took her to the dentist and the dentist wants to do root canal on her. I thought this was crazy. My 6 yr old had a pit in his tooth and the dentist just but a enamal coating over it since he is going to lose it anyway. Have any of you had to have root canal on your kids teeth.

UK QUESTION
I need to have the tip of a root taken out due to infection which is a simple procedure as a day patient. My dentist referred me to another dental clinic who say they won't charge me for the consultation but wouldn't give me the price of the procedure (Apicectomy). However, should I decide not to have the procedure done with them I will then get charged for the consultation!

I've written to my dentist asking to be referred to my local dental hospital as I refuse to pay - the procedure is necessary rather than cosmetic.

Has anyone been through a similar situation with their dentist? Any advice?

Anyone saying to have the tooth removed with have an immediate thumbs down for that answer!

I have dental insurance but I was thinking that if I bought a discount dental plan I can use the both and hopefully double my savings.

I had a gap on my front teeth and now I have an ugly triangle gap on the top of my front teeth.

I started with my braces two months ago because I have gap in the middle of my front teeth but what it was an open gap, now it is an open triangle gap on the top of my front teeth. It seems that it is only closing on the bottom bit of my teeth as I have the feeling that the lower bit of my teeth is crashing leaving the triangle gap on the top. I had two alignments already and I am also wearing bands to get the teeth together. The first week after I had the alignments seemed that the gap was almost closed but then it started to give an ugly triangle open shape on the top part of my front teeth.

I have asked the dentist about this a couple of times and he said that I should not worry about it but I can’t help myself. I even went to see the dentist in person but the dentist keeps saying that I shouldn’t worry.

Please read my second post about this .. Thanks

I am taking motrin to relieve the pain, but it is barely doing anything, and I am rinsing my mouth with peroxide to keep out infection--I thought root canal surgery was supposed to "RELIEVE" the pain--not make it worse!!!

I got my braces off of my teeth 2 weeks ago and one side of my gums are inflammed and swollen & it hurts like hell.

I already tried to get my dentist to write me a script for pain but he wouldn't he just said take advil!

I am the kind of person that it takes 3 times the medicine than a regular person would take to work on me!

I can't help it but that's how my body is, it just don't break down the medicine like it should!

So it would take very powerful pain medicine to work on me!

But you know my dentist or doctor wouldn't buy that they would think I'm lying just trying to get some narcotics.

I'm not a drug seeker at all I just want some relief from the pain!

How will I convince my dentist to write me a script for pain just for a couple of days so I can have some relief?

I've heard that gums do not fair well on and around artificial teeth. With an implant(s) and a crown(s), would the gums be expected to recede much more significantly than the gums surrounding natural teeth?

Is the chance for gum recession greater when a person has veneers?
