It doesn't sound as if the problem is bad enough to cap the tooth, so it IS NOT a rush....it's mainly a cosmetic problem. When you get the money, the dentist can "bond" on material which will make the appearance better.
A little corner chipped WILL NOT cause decay. You have time before you have to go. Relax.

I have two chip-repaired front teeth from an accident 20 years ago. The dentist used a compound that matched the color of my teeth to add on to them. You can't even tell my teeth were chipped, still after all those years. Looks normal, feels normal and wasn't expensive at all.
After I had my braces off about five years ago, I had them add on to one tooth that had shifted due to the braces. If I remember correctly, it only cost about $75.00.
It doesn't sound like your problem is too serious, but you definitely need to speak to a dentist for proper diagnosis.

I've had many chipped and broken teeth and the only ones that have started to rot are the ones that the dentists have filled. If the look of the chip doesn't bother you, why pay for a doctor to fix it? I only go when I have to (pain). Both of my front teeth were broken in a bicycle wreck and I didn't have them fixed for some 15 years and they didn't rot.
Don't worry about it unless you are in pain.

Yes, go to the dentist---they have all sorts of new synthetic materials developed in the last few years for repairing teeth. But if you have to wait a while, it probably won't make that much difference, unless the pulp is exposed. But don't take my word for it--call the dentist's office, and ask the receptionist.

The chip itself does not sound like a serious problem.
If I were you, I would be more concerned as to WHY it chipped. Are your teeth getting brittle?
Cosmetics aside - you could have worse problems than just a chipped tooth. Especially if you have ever taken diet pills or methamphetamines.

Listen to Megan C,
You should go to a dental school and get it capped. it is probably going to be free or at almost no cost. In the long run it will be more expensive if you don't take care of it now!

The dentist will just cap it...you can't even tell that it is capped...He'll use a clear solution....Around here it could cost $60-$200...Find a dental school around there, it will be much cheaper, if not free....Don't worry about their experience, capping is one of the easiest procedures....

DEAR LADY,
THIS WILL NOT MAKE YOUR TOOTH ROT. WHEN YOU SEE A DENTIST HE WILL PROBABLY WANT TO JUST SMOOTH OFF THE ROUGH SECTION. THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
