I have had to have two teeth pulled in three weeks. The dentist just says that there is an infection and it will stay there until we find the source of the infection. There were two back molars and were very painfully pulled. He didn't perscribe any antibiotics this time because he said it was just a small infection and that usually goes away on its own after the tooth is pulled. I am looking for another dentist but what can I do to prevent any more teeth being pulled because of this so called infection? I had to have them pulled because it only cost 170-245 to pull, it was 1700 for a single root canal. I hardly have enough to pull a tooth. I need what teeth I have left. Could another dentist have done something different? It hurt like *** when he pulled both the last teeth and he just said that's what happens when they are infected. What should I do?

An infection would show up on the xrays that he should have taken. It sounds as though he's just guessing and will pull all your teeth before he figures it out. Many things can contribute to the anaesthetic not working. The main reason is probably the infection, but nervousness can play a role in it too. Hopefully, he now pulled the right tooth and your problems are over for now. If you are questioning the integrity of your dentist, maybe it's time to seek out a new one.

Ok so if he said it was just a small infection he could have stopped it from growing and actually got rid of it just by giving you antibiotics. Doesn't sound to me like he had any reason to pull any teeth. As the first treatment dentist's ALWAYS give patient's w/ an infection antibiotics. Sounds like your dentist knew the meds would clear up the infection so he told you he needed to pull teeth so he would make more $ off of you rather than just give you a prescription. Did he take any x-rays of the infection? If not you have the right to charge him with negligence and you will win i gaurantee it. Dentist's are required to show proof (x-rays) of infection if that's what they diagnosted and pulled the tooth for. Also even if he did take an x-ray you still may be able to charge him because if it was a small infection it would only be on one tooth and he would know which one because the x-ray would show it therefore would have no reason to pull 2 teeth. Infections spread to more than one tooth when they have had time to grow bigger not when they are small and just beginning.

Your really need to find another dentist because if you have an infection and that is what he said, he should of given you antibiotics so it does not spread any farther to other teeth. Root canals are expensive, but some dentist will allow you to make payments which is better than having the teeth pulled if that is the case. watch out for dentists!

wow...some dentist! GO to another dentist for a second opinion ASAP. I am surprised that you weren't prescribed anything afterward. Did he provide you with instructions on o how to clean that area where the teeth were extracted? If not, you have a very lousy dentist.

Most dentists try to save teeth.

Infections must be treated with anitbiotics.

You need to find another dentist.
