If your sleepping, would that be possible?

There have been instances where patients have swallowed a denture or an ill fitting partial, but I've never heard of one with a retainer. The retainer clasp on to the teeth and fits tightly across your palate which keeps the teeth from shifting when wearing, so this would make it pretty difficult to do unless yours just doesn't fit anymore. So if it fits correctly, then your chances of this happening are about impossible. If it doesn't fit tightly then it's not doing it's job of retaining your teeth's position and wearing it is of no use. If your in doubt about the fit, check with your orthodontist and discuss your concerns about the remote possibility of this happening. Nothing should discourage you from wearing your retainers, especially the fear of swallowing it! Hope I've been of some help and good luck!

No, not if it were attached to your teeth properly. It should be tight enough during sleep and should stick onto your teeth well. If it doesn't, then get new ones.
