Now, they have phase 1 and phase 2, if "necessary", and say that the changes made in phase 1 will cheapen the cost of phase 2... Of course, insurance only pays out its max one time regardless of the phase. Is this whole phase 1 just a scam? 3/4 of the kids in my son's 4th grade class have lip bumpers... It just seems like overkill to me, but maybe I'm missing something.

I am in the process of having my root canal done again. I went to dentist yesterday and he took the old root canal treatment out and put a temp filling on the tooth till i go back and get the root canal done again. However pieces keep coming off the temp filling when i eat even if i dont eat on the side with the temp filling. Is this normal? Its also still hurting when i eat should this stop in a couple of days?

She is a beautiful woman and needs 2 plates and her teeth pulled. Her self esteem has bottomed out and her health is suffering, including heart problems. She is in college, raising her kids alone and paying all her bills, but because the dentures are seen as cosmetic she can get no assistance. She can't eat right, is sensitive to cold, has absesses and bleeding. If you can't chew your food and have constant infections it has a physical effect on your health. Why are plates seen as cosmetic when Dr.s relate severe dental problems to heart disease? Where can she find help?

My dentist filed my supersharp upper canines to look more in harmony with the rest of the teeth (I have braces) and today-a week later-I noticed that one of them is slightly sensitive when I open my mouth and inhale air. I'm wondering if my teeth have been damaged and is there anything I can do about it? My mother is convinced they will eventually decay and need root canals because too much has been filed and teeth should never be filed so now I'm freaking out. I have a few more teeth that can use a little more filing too and now I am scared to consider it. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks in advance. By the way, the teeth look good, I'm not in pain, just slight sensitivity here and there.

When having a tooth extracted at the dentist today I may have swallowed part of the tooth. I'm told that this isn't a problem unless the tooth actually wasn't swallowed, but rather inhaled or aspirated in the lungs. What would the first symptoms of this having happened be, and how long would it take for them to appear?

I thought they were mostly a cosmetic procedure. But the dentist is saying I need them because I have a cavity in a front tooth that is too large for just a filling. I don't know if I trust him.

After paying several $ at two other dentist and two plates later, they have still made this plate incorrectly. He can not even go out for dinner and have satisfaction, as his plate continues to fall out! He is embarrased and sadden! We are going on vacation for the first time in 14 years of marriage and I would like to see him enjoy himself, however we can not afford another $700-$800 to have another plate made and am looking for some help! Thank you in advance, it is greatly appreciated!

Dumb question? Maybe. I had braces put on the bottom front row of teeth when I was visiting some relatives in another country--much cheaper than in the US. I had planned to go back for another visit, but now I can't. I've called around my area asking dentists what they would charge. They want about $600 just to take them off!

A dentist told me that when a person is born with less than 4 wisdom teeth he/she is more evolved. What does that mean? Is it true? What are the wisdom teeth for biologically?

For about six months back in 2002-2003, I didn't have access to fluoride toothpaste or any modern dental supplies... unfortunately, several small cavities formed in that time. Since then, unable to afford a dentist, the cavities have just grown.

I currently have seven cavities that I'm able to feel with my tongue, two of which are likely to become a major problem down the line, and undoubtably several more in hiding.

Aside from regular oral hygiene, does anyone have any advice? I know how impotant a healthy mouth is, but I just don't know what to do.

They want to do more X-rays every time you come into the office. Then they claim they don't turn out well and say "sorry, we have to do them all again". I don't think this is safe!
