My dentist filed my supersharp upper canines to look more in harmony with the rest of the teeth (I have braces) and today-a week later-I noticed that one of them is slightly sensitive when I open my mouth and inhale air. I'm wondering if my teeth have been damaged and is there anything I can do about it? My mother is convinced they will eventually decay and need root canals because too much has been filed and teeth should never be filed so now I'm freaking out. I have a few more teeth that can use a little more filing too and now I am scared to consider it. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks in advance. By the way, the teeth look good, I'm not in pain, just slight sensitivity here and there.

If it's just occasional, minor sensitivity, try using a toothpaste like Sensodyne, that's made specifically for sensitive teeth. But if you're really worried about this or if the Sensodyne doesn't help, call your dental office and schedule an appointment to go talk to the dentist. If you feel like he may be biased, since he suggested the procedure in the first place, go to another office for a second opinion.

when you have a hole in youre teeth... it's good to have a filling in there... maybe your dentistdidn't fill your tooth correctly because faulty fillings can result to sensitive teeth! because if the filling material is not "packed" in the teeth accordingly it will have leaks and later on it will ruin the nerve and the entire teeth (that's why your mother says maybe you will need to have root canal.) try desensodizing toothpaste it will help in minimizing sensitive teeth because it would help numb the nerve so that you would not feel sensitive... if you feel sensitive ask your dentist...
