try ringing around a few other dentists for prices elsewhere, especially in the north , newry is less than a quarter of the price for private procedures.

If you think it will cost a lot you can take out a dental policy with VHI for about 150 euro and then you can claim back 70% of the money you spend on your teeth (even from newry) not sure about taxback but i checked out vhi and it works i am doing it myself at the moment and they are 50 years more advanced than any dentists in ireland........

It seems like a HUGE amount of money for a course of deep scaling which i assume is what you are having? I may be wrong but i've never heard of even a root planing costing this much! If you have early gum disease then this should be able to be halted and kept in check by 3 monthly scalings by your dentists or hygeinist. If it is something more advanced than early gum disease than perhaps you may need an intensive course of scaling but even so - get other quotes! It will do no harm to find out other prices!
And the hygienist will do a much better job in the long run than the dentist will for the scaling as they are specifically trained to do it and have the time booked out to really do the job thoroughly.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

Wow, that is expensive, my dentist does gum treatment for £250, and that's on a private basis.
Not sure about the tax side of things though!
Might be worth getting a 2nd'3rd opinion, also have you thought about Trinity teaching hospital, this is where the students train and their alays on the look out for people to practice on!

a community dentist did the very similar ingredient with me! He also screwed up a teeth with a poorly made/equipped filling, then charged me for redoing his own mistake! I went back to my previous dentist per week later (he's 70mi from me and that i used to artwork with him). He took one seem in my mouth, probed all round my gums, and stated as the periodontist HIMSELF. i replaced into in her workplace 1/2-hour later. because it became out, i necessary surgical procedure on all 4 quadrants, an extraction, and six bone grafts. My dentist also stated I must have had a crown positioned on the screwed-up teeth because there replaced into so little of it left after the community quack had messed with it. I stay in a small city, so spreading the note about the crummy dentist may have an outcome on his corporation, thank God!!

I had a friend who had gum disease, and all the dentist did was give her antibiotics for it.
