I thought they were mostly a cosmetic procedure. But the dentist is saying I need them because I have a cavity in a front tooth that is too large for just a filling. I don't know if I trust him.

Soetiems a large cavity cannot be filled too good just by itself, the tooth may need to be crowned in these cases not veneered actually. A veneer is a layer of porcelain on the outer surface of your tooth. The first choice for a large cavity will be to try and fill it with tooth coloured material..and retetnion of these is pretty good-id go for this if you are under 18 years of age. if you are older and the hole is too big then opt for a crown as a second choice.

veneers are not necessary for healthy teeth. why would you need a venners when your teeth are healthy? natural teeth are still better than anything even though they would replace it with gold! it looks natural and you're confident that your teeth looks good!

>but if you have a big cavityand he wants you to have veneers ask him for the estimates and also why you need to do that or ask another dentist for second opinion or if they can just do it without veneers...

Go get a second opinion if you are worried. Dentists only make money if they do procedures, but if he is being straight with you then you will feel better that at least you know for sure.
