Make an appointment with your doctor and get a complete checkup. You could have a thyroid problem or diabetes or any number of medical conditions that could be at the core of your problem. Good luck.

First think I'd ask you is about your body. Is your skin dry? Hair dry? Are you always tired? Have you ever had a thyroid test? Could be a problem. If that isn't it, do you eat enough? You may be eating so little that when you do have a decent meal, the body hoards all it can because it thinks you are in a starvation mode. And third, I know you don't want to hear this, but are you exercising? Eating alone doesn't burn enough calories. Even if you got a cheap pedometer and walked every day (they have found that walking is better for your body than jogging anyway), and increased the amount of time you walked when you feel it getting too easy to walk that distance, that would help a lot. Doesn't seem like it, but it will. And fourth, how much water are you drinking? I know most people don't like drinking water, but try it with ice cubes and a twist of lemon if you like, and definitely stay AWAY from the diet sodas unless they say no calories, sodium or caffeine. If you've already done all that, then maybe a bariatric doctor can help find out what's going on. Hope this helps because I too am trying to lose weight and it isn't the easiest thing I've ever done in my life. I am now 56 and the older you get, the harder it gets. As for the exercise, I would start out with stretching exercises first to limber up those muscles so you don't hurt yourself. And by the way, doing housework does not count as exercise because your body is used to doing it. You got to trick the body and do things you don't usually do. Even if it is for 5 to 10 minutes a day to start out. I presently have joined a group called Spark on the web and it is a great diet group. You can follow whatever diet you want, track what you eat, track your exercise, find exercises in video format to do, and lots of great recipes. You can even submit one of your own. The best part is you meet a lot of people in the same boat as you and they are so nice and so great at giving advice. Good luck.

I actually had a thyroid problem and still do. If you had that you would be either losing weight or not gaining any at all.

The thyroid gland controls your metabolism and heart rate. Check around the base of your neck and see if they thyroid is swollen. Because of the increased metabolism, I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain anything. My restig heart rate was like 140 though, so it was really bad. And that was when I feld normal.

Go to the doctor and get yourself checked out.

It could be that the diet isn't the one for you. You need to burn off the calories you eat and already have. So if you eat a mars bar and do two minutes of exercise, nothing is going to happen. You'd still have many calories that you haven't burned off yet.

Check out a dietian as well. But if you are eating right and not doing exercise, then nothing is going to happen.

Do you think your fat? What everyone else says isn't what you need to go by. You didn't say how tall you are or how much you weigh. What kind of bone structure do you have? Family history can play a part in tendency toward being heavy or thin but it's possible to over come that with the proper diet. Not a crash diet or fad diet--- a good healthy diet and exercise.

Instead of having a strict, horrible diet, please consider going to your dr., and see if you can get a referral to a nutritionist, and see about asking about the diabetic exchange diet. It is normal, healthy eating, a variety of foods to choose from, and is based on caloric intake. It is the way most people eat, or at least, should eat. Also, please stay away from fake sugars-diet pop, etc., They have found that there is an ingredient ( I think it's the fake sugar) that causes people to gain weight, and not lose the weight. How? It seems to cause an incease in their appetite. Do you exercise? Not jumping jacks, etc., I am talking things like walking, swimming, dancing (yes, even alone in the privacy of your home). Maybe have a friend of yours walk with you for up to 30 minutes per day? I wish you the best. Take care.

First of all people that have to be so rude are ignorant! We are entitled to our freedom of speech, but we should be sensitive to not hurt others by making them feel bad about themselves. You might want to see a doctor, and tell your friends or family to save their negative speech you will no longer entertain what they have to say to make you feel bad. Good for you for making the effort to want to loose weigh, unlike some people who don't want to do anything about loosing any weigh, because they are happy just the way they are, sometimes if people have thyroid its very hard for them to loose weight. Good luck and don't be so hard on yourself, start telling yourself that you are loosing weight and change your diet, no fry foods, fast foods, breads, sweets, avoid what you know is unhealthy, take your vitamins, and walk a lot and drink your water with some lemon juice. Boil the water and add lemon drops and drink it like tea without sugar, helps get rid of some fat.

I agree with princeton, if you followed a strict, and healthy diet, a long with a strict exercise plan, then you should've lost weight. Make an appointment with your doctor, there could be something wrong with your thyroid. But if there isn't, see a nutritionalist. Good luck!

For a small percentage of people, overweight is caused by a hormone, or chemical imbalance. For MOST people however, it comes down to simple math:
calories consumed - calories used = left over calories, which your body will convert to fat and store

its best to do both, eat less, eat better, and exercise daily (even if its just walking for 30 mins).
