About 2 weeks after I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled, I developed an infection in my lower left side (that was the one that was impacted horizontally). I was put on antibiotics and the infection went away. A week after I was done with the antibiotics, I woke up with my left side of my face slightly swollen. There really isnt any pain; it just feels heavy (if that makes sense). I'm going back to my surgeon again but I was wondering if this is really serious, because I am really scard that this could be something a lot worse. Thanks in advance!

I'm freaking out here 'cause my dentist referred me to a surgeon to extract my bottom wisdom teeth as they are horizontally positioned. He keeps saying that the surgeon will have to "open it". How does this work exactly??

I had to get a scaling done on my teeth in 2005. I have been brushing, flossing, and swoshing faithfully in the morning and before bed ever since. After I brushed my teeth yesterday evening , I noticed tarter has formed again in the back of my upper teeth. What extra steps can I take to prevent having this procedure done every few years?

Then today, (the next Monday) I have like 3!

I know I have been nervous due to school stuff (applying for

Is it possible to have more than 1 cold sore? And where do they come from?

did u know that your filling in your mouth contains mercury which is one of the toxic substances? Yet the studies about the safeness of using this type of filling is still going on. As i read from the internet, some of the contries had banned the amalgam filling. Can u give me any opinions or ideas about the amalgam filling.. and surely i would be really approciated by me..tq

I got my my top and bottom premolars taken out to make more room for the teeth to shift. I was wondering What would happen to my teeth now that I have my braces on and my premolar taken out. Will my teeth shift in ward and allign with my other teeth in the back? or will the back teeth shift foward to allign with the teeth in the front? I want it to shift back so my mouth wont bulge out so much. Please HELP ME im so worried!

I go tomorrow on Tuesday to get my braces and I've had spacers in for two weeks. I have 3 that are the rubber and one metal one, well, the metal one had gotten loose and started poking into my gums and really irritating them. Every time I bit down the way my teeth fit together my bottom tooth was putting direct pressure on that spacer. Anyway, last night it came out. Since I go tomorrow will this be a major problem? I don't want to get fussed at...and the ortho isn't in town today.

I had a tooth removed last tuesday and I am still having some pain. My stitches have not dissolved yet and I am not sure what a dry socket feels like. I can remember the doctor saying that she was going to make sure I did not get a dry socket because and I think she might have put double stiches in my mouth. Can someone tell me what the sympoms for a dry socket are? My cheek is still tender and area where the tooth was kinda hurts/bothersome. Thanks

I am going to remove my braces soon and my orthodontist recommends a permanent retainer instead of the removable ones. I'm a little worried as it looks really uncomfortable and I'm afraid it might affect my speech. Anyone with experience to give me some advice?

1) Does it irritate the tongue and cause ulcers?
2) Will I be able to speak normally? I feel my speech is not so clear with braces
3) Will the retainer be taken off eventually?
4) Does food (like vegetables and meat) get stuck in the retainer?
5) Anything else I should know?

Thanks :)

What I don't understand is if a dentist treats both NHS patients and private patients what is the difference? I am talking here about general dental work (e.g. check-up, scale and polish, fillings) and not any kind of cosmentic work.

If you chose to be a private patient the same dentist is most likely to give you the same treatment as a NHS patients. i.e. spend the same amount of time examing you, give you the same degree of cleaning, give you the same filling. So why do some people choose to be a private patient at a NHS dental clinic. What is the point in paying more money for the same treatment?
