I had a tooth removed last tuesday and I am still having some pain. My stitches have not dissolved yet and I am not sure what a dry socket feels like. I can remember the doctor saying that she was going to make sure I did not get a dry socket because and I think she might have put double stiches in my mouth. Can someone tell me what the sympoms for a dry socket are? My cheek is still tender and area where the tooth was kinda hurts/bothersome. Thanks

If your tooth only "kind of hurts" you probably do not have a dry socket. The pain from a dry socket is severe and in my experience (I had one with one of my wisdom teeth) it did not respond to over the counter pain relievers.

If you are concerned that you are not healing properly or something is wrong, go back to your dentist and have her take a look.

I had dry socket and when I breathed in air I got this really sharp horrible pain. I couldn't eat or drink anything. It doesn't sound like dry socket but if you start to feel a lot more pain a couple of days than you should go back and have them check. You could also have an infection.

If it feels like the pain is worse or getting worse, CALL or see your doctor, as it could be a symptom of dry sockets. Dry socket can develop 3-5 days after extraction. Took me about 2 weeks before I could really start eating solid food again after wisdom teeth extraction.

Trust me, if you had dry socket you would know it - the whole area around the stitches and gums would throb with tremendous pain. Unbearable pain most likely. Yes, dry socket hurts like a mofo.

It occurs when bacteria gets into the gap and causes immense pain.

Not very fun.

It does not sound like you have a dry socket, if you had one you would you would be in ALOT of pain, they hurt so bad, you can get them from just sipping out of a straw, or smoking a cigarette. but f you ever get one go to the dentest right away they are VERY VERY painful. so dont worry it just sounds like the normal healing prosess you are dealing with.

Hope this helps you.

If you are still experiencing pain, the dentist may have left a small piece of tooth still in ure gum. Its important you revisit him as soon as you can. You shouldnt be feeling that much pain. In the meantime, take a couple of "nurofen" to stop the pain right away.
