I'm going to see an orthodontist in a week about getting braces. I'm 21 and I have a tooth (lateral incisor) that's really pushed behind the other (surprisingly very straight) teeth backwards and it's been that way for yrs. I'm getting the braces for both cosmetic and health reasons. Cosmetic because I hate the fact that my teeth look so odd (to me at least ; ppl say they don't notice till I point it out) and health reasons because I'm afraid it'll continue to be pushed backwards and it'll get harder for me to clean it as well any possible sinus problems that could arise in the future (according to what one dentist told me). Thing is, I'm very much against cosmetic surgery (not reconstructive) unless your self-esteem is completely affected in a way that interferes with your life. I even hate colored contact lenses because I somehow think it makes you ungenuine. My question is, would getting braces make me a hypocrite?

So,Maeve N tells me I should check my spelling.Well,Maeve N you should know that the word you write:FLOUR is a fine powder made from cereals or other food sources,is the key ingredient of bread.Meanwhile,my word:FLUOR is a soft mineral(calcium fluoride) that is fluorescsent in UV light,it is the chief source of fluorine. So,you ignorant fool, you were wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT ME.So,I have read yesterday that fluor can cause cancer, bone fractures, that initally it was a pesticide.Just go and write fluor(NOT FLOUR)in yahoo search and visit the websites. You will find the bad effects of fluor.Waiting for your answers!

Searching online, i find that Dentists make a decent amount of money, (i believe they deserve it) but i wanted to know how much do they get on their first payment?
Can you state if its working by yourself(private practice or under someones supervision).

THanks

My dentist said I have a small alignment problem with two of my teeth and that I could fix it with braces. My parents said if I want to, then I can. Nobody else says they can see the problem, but to me, it's obvious. Getting braces would be for 1 and a half years, train-track type, and I would feel pretty self-concious about it. I DO want to have a perfect smile later on.... but I'm not sure, because others say the problem is not noticeable.
I can't decide what to do... the cost is no problem, it's just that I'm not sure if it's worth 1.5 years of braces just to fix a small thing. Also I've heard braces are painful. What do you think?

i plan on becoming a dentist. everytime i tell someone, i get blank stares or the phrase: "you're crazy." why is dentistry underestimated? im just curious, because i think a smile is the most imporant feature a person can have and it should be taken care of as much as possible. but it seems like im the only one, aside from other dentists, who thinks this...what gives?

It is no coincidence that I have had major tooth sensitivity since I first had my teeth cleaned by an ultrasonic device(newer technology).

when I first got my retainer, it fit really snug around my teeth, and it was hard to get out using just my tongue. Its been a month since i've had my retainer, and its gotten really easy to take out, only using my tongue/lip/whatever. is this normal

I had my wisdom teeth removed monday and last night I felt something sticking out of my inner side of my jaw, against where your tounge is. Today its semi broke through and it looks white/ivory and is hard.

Is this very common for some dentist to miss parts of the tooth? I am having a lot more complications with this removal then my other, they had to drill this tooth to get it out.
Its so aggrivating, I can feel it UGH!

I also wanted to ask if the dentist will remove it or leave it in to be removed by iteself. I want to demand him take it out since I beleive he did leave a piece in.

Thanks
