About 2 weeks after I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled, I developed an infection in my lower left side (that was the one that was impacted horizontally). I was put on antibiotics and the infection went away. A week after I was done with the antibiotics, I woke up with my left side of my face slightly swollen. There really isnt any pain; it just feels heavy (if that makes sense). I'm going back to my surgeon again but I was wondering if this is really serious, because I am really scard that this could be something a lot worse. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the responses!! I really appriciate it! I did go to my oral surgeon and he was not too happy with what was going on. He said that there was too much tissue on the extraction site (I was basically chewing on my gums). He did give me another round of antibiotics but he said that he is going to do some "electro.. something" (Dont quite remember sorry) on my gums to take off the excess tissue. I hope everything goes well.. wish me luck :D

The same thing happened to me after my surgery. The surgeon said both holes got plugged up and the fluid inside got infected. A guick snip from him opened up the hole and the fluid all came out, and the infection went away quickly after that. My surgery was very deep and it was a pretty good sized hole. I wouldn't worry about it, but I think seeing the doctor is a wise precaution.

Wisdom Teeth Post Op Infection

It sounds to me like he is going to have to drain the infection out and put you on another round of antibiotics. Unless he didn't keep you on them long enough or use a strong enough dose to kill off the bacteria. Either way, call and let the surgeon evaluate the situation. I know it's tough when it happens once, but twice, you're a trouper! But sometimes it just happens, especially when impacted wisdom teeth are involved. You may want to try just pushing inward on your cheek, against the teeth, at the extraction site area, and see if you get any drainage in your mouth. The infection needs to come out, but you may be more comfortable letting the doctor do that. Start swishing with a warm water and peroxide rinse about half and half. This will help with the infection until you can get in to the Doctor. Had this same problem with my daughter a couple of years ago. So it's not uncommon, you can quit feeling so special! Good luck!

Its very possible you have an infection, i would go back to the dentist and have him have a look at it , at times small bone fragments can be left behind (due to no fault of anyone and too small to be seen by the naked eye ) which cause these infections.

Good Luck!

It sounds like you might be infected again. Swelling usually means an infection underneath.
