I have had a back bottom molar hurting for years but no dentist has been able to help. I recently had it crowned..it had a filling.. and it still hurts. When I called to tell the dentist, he said just take ibuprofen. Another dentist said the dentist who crowned it didnt make it long enough so there's a gap causing an opening and I have infection in it now. I've been on penicillin he prescribed but it still hurts and it's a week later. Now, all the teeth above it (about 4 or 5) are all hurting badly too. What is going on?? Is there any dentist who can actually help and wont charge an arm and leg? We have insurance but it is used up for this year now cuz they dont pay much. I live in IL. Plz if any dentists out there, reply with advice. I'm tired of being in pain day and night and beginning to think I should just get everything pulled. I just turned 50.

I posted yesterday asking about hospital costs etc as i need to get all my teeth pulled under GA due to my terrible fear :) I had one answer about IV sedation. How good is it? I am extremely terrified i need all my teeth pulled except for 5. Are you aware at all of whats going on. Are you pretty much out to it that you have no idea of whats happening? It might be an option for me rather than getting knocked out but i need to know it will pretty much put me under to the point where i am oblivious to everything (pulling, noise, etc) i am suffering continual absesses as well, and understand your gums tend to not take the anesthetic to will. Will this affect me, will i feel the needles etc or will the IV eliminate this.
I am at two minds now, i would rather go under completely as if i know i wont feel anything but at a $!500 price tag for the day surgery at hospital, plus anethiest fees, i will save considernably if i go with the IV i imagine! Anyone had good or bad experiences?

I am a pre-dental hygiene student and recently was told that jobs are getting very difficult to find (unless you only want to work only 2 days a week) and that the lifespan of the career is not very long. Additionally she told me that the great pay was basically to offset the out of pocket insurance costs and limited hours.... I am starting to get concerned that this is perhaps not the stable career that I thought it was when I started school. Was the person I spoke to representing "the norm"? Or just disgruntled??

I work in shifts (8hrs per day). I have different shift every third day. This disturbs my biological clock. How can I avoid mouth ulcers due to incomplete sleep... Vitamin B-complex tablets help at times but not always.
I don't wish to change my job so please don't give that as an answer.

When I was 12 I broke half of one of my front teeth and had to have a root canal. The dentist restored the tooth with bonding and I had it replaced a couple times until today (15 yrs later) only because the line between the real tooth and bonding was becoming more visible. The tooth itself was fine.
My new dentist says that I should get a crown because it is more durable and will give me a better smile. He wants to put a porcelain to high noble metal crown. I'm scared of taking the leap, I am afraid of the crown not matching the other teeth. I've also read a lot about all porcelain vs. porcelain fused to metal. Now I am at a loss!!

The bonding I have today is ok but doesn't look impeccable. What is the best solution?

2005 started treatment at dentist, had 9 root canels, at my own cost due to working, however the dentist left, so had to wait many months, b4 another took my case on, hence the root canels failed, and i now am having them taken out, and two plates put in, some on the nhs most i have to pay myself, since the work carried out back in 2005, wasnt done, to save the teeth, can i manke a claim, against the dentist to recoup the costs, since this work failed due to the long time scale no work was done. if the work had continued maybe the teeth would have been saved? however it wasnt and now the teeth are been taken out, at yet more costs to me, i do not want to make a complaint just yet, as i really need the work finishing, before i start any complaints!!! i just want to know whether, i have a claim to make, or is it just unfortunate that the dentist left, and i had to wait untill another dentist at the same practise took the work on? i am saddened the work stopped resulting in failure.

i brush my teeth 2 or 3 times a day. and my teeth arent like yellow, or decayed or anything. when i go to school, i brush my teeth in the morning, and when i leave my mouth is fine for like a 1/2 hour. then it starts to get like dry, and if i drink something, it still doesnt go away. and when i do, my mouth will taste nasty and my breath stinks [to me anyway]..and it does that when i dont drink things too.
i always have to chew gum so it goes away.
anyone know why i have this?..is there anything to get rid of it?

I wash my mouth and teeth everyday in the morning and night. I have this white stuff in my tongue, it becomes less when I wash my mouth but it always reappears. Do you know what this "white" stuff might be and how do I get rid of it?

OK, so, I applied the whitestrips at 12:30AM, and I was waiting to take them off at 1AM.
To distract myself, I was reading a book. Next thing I know, my alarm is beeping and it's 7am.
My teeth are very sensitive and... the whitestrips are gone !
Did they somehow dissolve in my saliva,
or did I swallow them?
I am certain that I left them on overnight by accident.

What are the health risks?

The bone in her jaw has deteriorated to the point that she is borderline at getting dental implants. It is also affecting her ear and giving her pain. Implants with attached dentures are extremely expensive. The lowest quote we got was $25K up to $35K. We haven't got the money and can't get it. I am retired and my wife is off work so we can't finance it. Where do I turn now?
