My daughter has had TMJ for 3 years. She gets ear pain and 'pain spikes' in her ear. We see a phsical therapist, a chiropractor, she has a bite brace, eats a soft diet, doesn't grind or clench her teeth..
So now we are at the end of our rope! I know I am grasping at straws but who else can we go to? We already see an ENT who said he can't do anymore. She sees a dentist again Thursday.
But my question to you is this: Oral Surgeon? Mayofacial surgeon? Who will have the answers? At this point all I really need to know is where to start and what treatments are available now?

I know it seems like I'm repeating questions, but because of this dentist, I am in bone crushing pain, where I was in no pain at all when I went in this afternoon.

Any dentists out there, if you would be willing to read my last question, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

My insurance won't pay for braces.
Is there an alternative?

I just got my temporary venners put on about 2 weeks ago and they are already stained from coffee and tea. I know they will be coming off pretty soon anyways, but is there a way I can whiten them so they aren't so yellow or will it damage them? If I can whiten them, what do I use?

I have a broken tooth that's broken so far down that my dentist says it needs to be pulled. I'm horrified of dentists and even more horrified of this minor procedure.

What should I expect? Will local anesthesia be enough?

What about the bone graft? is this even necessary?

Are there complications?!

Any help will be soooo appreciated!!

Okay, so it goes like this. I had a dentist that I trusted and loved to death, but my new insurance, he doesn't take. I had to move to another dentist. I was supposed to go in today for a root canal, and he started to drill before I was numb. I screamed. The **** hurt. Well, he told me that there was not enough tooth left for a root canal, and that I was going to have to have it pulled.

Here comes the fun part:

He said that it was abcessed, and that I had to take two days of antibiotics before I could get it pulled, and he STARTED TO YELL AT ME. Yes, you heard me correctly. He YELLED at me. Obviously, this is NOT the guy I want doing an extraction.

Well, now that the numbness is starting to wear off, it's starting to hurt like HELL. What makes this MORE complicated is that I'm pregnant. I really can't take anything for the pain except for Tylenol.

I have an emergency extraction scheduled with my old dentist tomorrow. What can I do for the pain in the meantime?

Ive been wanting to get braces for years. Ive looked into Apple Ortho and private Orthodontics. Is it better to go to Apple a place that is well known, or to a private ortho? Does anybody have any bad experiences with Apple or Monarch Dental? I have insurance but it does not cover orthodontics because it is considered "cosmetic".

I'm doing a science fair project on how different liquids promote enamel loss and I cannot get real teeth, so I did research and found that others that did the same project used hard boiled eggs. Thanks a lot.

We've been all told that eating sweets is bad for our teeth. Can't your teeth rot on cheese burgers too? The little buggers that feed on sweets can feed on other types of food, right? And what if you brush your teeth right after eating sweets? Plus doesn't orange juice and other healthy fruits have almost as much sugar as a can of soda? Sugar is sugar whether it's refined or not, right?

I'm starting med school next year and have always tought I wanted to be a GP. I know you can't really say untill you've done a few clinical rotations but what is the future for GP's? The literature I've read on the subject expects a come back for GP's but to me it seems unlikely as the insurance companies would rather just pay the specialist and skip the GP.

It's not swollen or bruised, it only hurts when I run my finger over the specific spot where it hurts. When I do this, I feel my finger go over something in my jaw, that I don't feel on the other side. I think it may be dental related, because just last week, I had a gum infection which I'm going to get cleaned out next Monday, but however none of my teeth hurt and my gums aren't sore anymore. The dentist said the cause of the infection was that I wasn't brushing and flossing enough, so they got me brushing and flossing a lot more to strengthen my gums. So possibly it could be related to the gum problem I was having, or could it possibly be a wisdom tooth coming in, or possibly growing into my jaw or something? I am going to the dentist next Monday for my final cleaning of that little infection and will ask them about it, but I'd like to see your opinions to give me an idea of what to ask.

I have a partial swelling of my gums in the front of my mouth. I brushed my entire gumline extensively with a soft-bristled regular toothbrush (I was rough so as to encourage bleeding in case there was infection I needed to get out), and then my usual battery powered vibrating brush. I then swished salt water and swabbed the area with high quality tequila (since rubbing alcohol is not for internal use). I'm also drinking hot green tea to encourage blood flow in and out of the area. The swelling has gone down, but its still at an annoying level. Is there anything else I can be doing?

Seeing a dentist isn't an option because my health insurance doesn't cover dental.

I am trying to explain the swelling of my gums and rear mouth tissue after drinking coffee or eating fruit sometimes. My teeth will touch this expanded tissue sometimes and drag along it to create sores? What would be causing this? Coffee? Minerals in foods? Water? Almost like I want to chew the sides of my gums when this happens. They feel a little numb too, not excessive pain but just in the way. It goes away after a while. Could this bee from dental filling material interacting with my gums? Viruses going around? Flu shot?
