I have a partial swelling of my gums in the front of my mouth. I brushed my entire gumline extensively with a soft-bristled regular toothbrush (I was rough so as to encourage bleeding in case there was infection I needed to get out), and then my usual battery powered vibrating brush. I then swished salt water and swabbed the area with high quality tequila (since rubbing alcohol is not for internal use). I'm also drinking hot green tea to encourage blood flow in and out of the area. The swelling has gone down, but its still at an annoying level. Is there anything else I can be doing?

Seeing a dentist isn't an option because my health insurance doesn't cover dental.

For one, I think the extensive brushing your gums is going to irritate rather then help your gums. Gums are sensitve, and by over brushing, that can cause swelling and bleeding. Its not going to help rid of any infection. Since you can't see a doctor, you can always go to a walgreens or some sort of pharmacy and ask them for advice for as what to do/ treat with. You could also just call a dentist, and you would probably find they could offer some advice.

does the tooth hurt, does it look discolored can you see or feel a hole in the tooth?

there may be a cavity and an abscess therefore a good gum brushing woun't work. you need antibiotics, if no dental insurance, go to the ER and have then take a look.

insurance is only a help,it is not meant to pay everything. if your car needs an oil change, does your car insurance pay for it? don't be foolish see a dentist or at least go to the ER.
