Your orthodontist should tell you this. Whatever you do, make sure you wear it for the entire time he tells you to!! I was supposed to wear mine for two years, but was negligent, and now, almost 20 years later, my teeth have moved back somewhat and are no longer aligned. All that pain you went through with the braces will be worth it if you wear the retainer as he orders.

It depends on several things. If you haven't had your wisdom teeth removed yet and your orthodontist has recommended that you do that to keep your teeth from crowding together again, you should probably wear your retainer to bed every night until you get that done. If you've already had your wisdom teeth removed, you can probably start wearing them every other night or so, and gradually lessen the wearing time from month to month. However, I have had my braces off for 10 years now, and I find my teeth still get crooked looking again if I go without wearing a retainer for months at a time. if youn want to keep them perfectly straight for the rest of your life, you'll probably want to pop the retainer in for at least a couple hours or so about once a week to minimize shifting.

You might have to wear it for years. The teeth in your mouth are always moving, thats a life long thing and in order to keep them from going back the way they were thats the purpose of the retainer.

it is very important to wear your retainer all the time for now. teeth are still moible and will move! After the first month or so you can sleep in it only. After the 2nd or 3rd month, I would wear it only once or twice a week. But if u see any movement wear it more often. the longer, the better!

Man wear that retainer as long as you can. If only at night when you sleep. You want your teeth to settle in now.

I was told I'd have to wear mine for about a year. I didn't do it, though, and now have a slight cross-bite.
