I had a filling on a rear tooth done a long time ago, never had any problems. Now I just went to the dentist a few days ago and they took x-rays and noticed a "large cavity." They checked it out for themselves but I showed no pain/symptoms. I was set to come back in a few days to have it filled, but when I went in and got it filled, during the filling I was told that I would need a root canal. Is it possible to need a root canal if the dentist drills too far? Also, is it possible that the tooth wasn't properly filled the first time, so now it has progressed to this? Thanks!
