I have had pain on my right side near my ribs for almost two months now. At times it is like a subtle noticeable pain and others it is stabbing and travels into my shoulder and front to back. It seems worse at nights and after eating. At times it is unbearable but mostly I am able to function on the vicodin which the doctors give me. I have had urine and blood tests, a ct scan and an ultrasound but everything has come up negative. Initially it was thought maybe kidney then gallbladder but no tests show anything.
I am extremely frustrated and have no idea what to do anymore. I am tired of going to the dr.'s office becuase I feel like I am wasting their time and mine, but I dont want to make the mistake of letting soemthing go too far. Should I just keep waiting for it to go away?

Two months ago I changed my diet completely and have no had fried or fatty foods since, have seriously cut down intake of caffeine and have been sleeping more than enough.

The symptoms you described may be due to a problem in your thoracic spine. The autonomic nervous system - the part that controls all the things your body does unconsciously - has a lot of nerve centers in the thorax along the spine. If the vertebrae are not moving properly or you have some other physical problem, the autonomic system can become dysfunctional.
The good news is, you have had a lot of good medical follow-up to this point. It is important in this type of case to know what "it ain't"! So, with the scans we know that a lot of serious things have been ruled out.
I would start with an osteopath, or possibly a Physical Medicine and Rehab doctor (also called a "physiatrist") and let them have a look at you. You are NOT crazy, you just need to get in front of the kind of practitioner who knows how to recognize these things.
Good luck!

Does it hurt more when you breathe in? I had a similar pain for a while and a doctor eventually told me it was pleuracy. Basically, he said that meant that there wasn't enough fluid in the lining of the lung so it rubs together and causes a lot of pain. It really isn't harmful to the body though, it is just painful. There isn't a cure for it, but it usually goes away after a while.
Anyway, maybe that isn't your problem, but you could also try to eat better, get enough sleep, etc. Many times simple things like not taking good care of yourself can trigger strange problems. Anyway, I hope it gets better.

I know how frustrating it can be! I have had a medical problem for the past 3 months, with still no prognosis. But, don't stop trying to find out what is wrong. It could be something very minor, but it also might be something major that you need to get fixed or take proper medication. I might be as simple as fixing your diet, or taking some type of antacids. Good Luck!!! Don't give up!!!

try a chiropractor, position you sleep in, way you get up, and even clothes and shoes you wear could give a clue as the medical tests haven't. my credentials: i have an on going problem similar to yours and medical tests can not pinpoint the problem, chiropractic care and warm ups before getting out of bed in the morning keep me active tho mine is degenerative. and i take a very minimal amount of chemicals( ibuprofen, Tylenol, aspirin, and morphine.
