One of our biggest ties to the past is our sense of smell and food ties right in there. I love the smell of home made yeast rolls cooking in a fall oven with pot roast bubbling on the back burner.

The psychology of comfort food is fascinating. Is it a reminder of our childhood? Does it remind us of good times? Can it help us to cope? When we are put under pressure, do we return to the things we know? For many of us comfort food may represent all of these things and more.

My favourite comfort food is a 'Pie Floater', see:

I have a great cookie recipe, but whenever I try to make them large they just flatten out. I've tried adding more flour and baking soda, but it didn't help too much. I tried using shortening in stead of butter as well. Can I try something else? Do I need to use a different type of flour?

Does anyone have a recipe that makes what I'm looking for?

My mother had a recipe for an apple custard pie, that was originally a recipe that she got off a land-o-lakes sour cream container. About 20 yrs ago or so. Does anyone have this recipe, or know of one for apple custard pie.

I've heard some about aging beef, steaks in particular. Wouldn't this be a health risk? Granted, so is eating sushi and I'm still a big fan of that, so is it worth the risk?

Okay, here is the word problem, with the answers we were supposed to get... HOW are we to end up with these? All 10 of us in the class do NOT get these answers...

On Oct 1, 2003, the Topeka Capital Journal ran a featured article on making cake frosting. The recipe called for an 8-ounce package of cream cheese, 1/2 cup of butter, 2 teaspoons of vanilla, and 3/4 cup of confectioner's sugar. If Mr. Baker watns to reduce the recipe by 1/3, how much of each ingredient would he need?

These are the answers in the back of the book:

7 2/3
5 1/3
1/3
1 1/3
1/2

Our teacher won't show us because she just keeps moving on to the next chapter...

I don't know what other stuff to put in it to make it taste good. So far I've put bacon, brown sugar, and honey. What else should I put in there that goes with the ingredients I've already put in that will compliment it.
