My mom asked me to bring a cold salad to thanksgiving. She said that there aren't enough veggies planned into the meal and she can't spare the oven. Any ideas?

This is for a Christmas gift for my girlfriend and me. I've signed up for the "knife basics" cooking class, and we're required to bring our own chef's knife, paring knife, and cutting board.
I've seen some knives in Williams-Sonoma or on-line that range in the $150+ range for a paring knife plus a chef's knife (Globe, etc.). I'd like to know whether I can buy a knife with that same quality for about 30% less (since I have to buy two sets -- one for me and one for my girl).
But if going down to the $50-60 knives means a considerable lack in quality, please let me know. I have a drawer full of junk knives, and I'm sick of it.

I used to have a recipe for a chocolate pie. It was made with hershey's cocoa. You stand over the stove for about an hour making it. You put meringue on it. I can find all kinds of recipes online but not this particular one. Does anyone have it?

My husband had gastric bypass surgery (has lost over 200 lbs)and can't have a lot of sugar, but loves peanut butter cookies. Does anyone a recipe for peanut butter cookies, that keeps the sugar grams below 15 per serving?
Any help would be appreciated (like if I could just replace Splenda in any recipe and things like that).
I want to make these for Thanksgiving so he can have a special treat, as he hasn't enjoyed desserts with the family since having the surgery.
Thanks so much!1

I am wondering if it's ok to place food in my crockpot, place it in the fridge over night, then cook it the next morning? Since it is a ceramic pot, is there a chance that it will crack?

I just got a grill and have really struggled with grilling BBQ chicken. The sugar in the sauce always seems to cause it to burn, no matter what level heat, or how often I turn it. Anybody have any simple tips? I've tried using thinner sauces like Chiavettas, but don't enjoy the taste as much.
