Calculate the proportion of ingredients depending on the servings the recipe is for and the servings you need. Sorry, it's difficult to put into words, so here is an example:
Recipe says it serves 8 portions.
You need 4 portions.
Divide the quantities in the recipe by 2 (this is 8 divided by 4).
That's the easy bit. More difficult is selecting a container of the correct size to cook it in and calculating the cooking time.

The task of reducing a recipe is simply a math problem. If the recipe you currently have says it serves 10 people and you need to serve only 5 people, simply reduce the recipe by half.

The math 5/10 = .50 or 50%

This is when remembering how to calculate fractions comes in handy. Simply use half of all the ingredients. Example you need 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock, then you'll need 3/4 cup of chicken stock.

Simple math.
