Recipe asks for 6 oz of chocolate chips. How many cups is that? I don't have a kitchen scale.

1 cup is 8 oz.. so its a drop less than a cup in weight, but sometimes they mean volumn.. maybe the 6oz package when placed in a cup measure, fills up the measuring cup.. Id say its about a cup full..

Typicall bag of chips is 12 oz about 2 cups. So half the bag or 1 cup.

A cup is 8 oz.
6/8=3/4 of a cup.
Sometimes those endless fraction drills in grade school come in handy. ;)
Do you have measuring cups?
If you don't, a package of chocolate chips is almost always in a 12 oz bag...you can use half the bag of chips..or one cup of chocolate chips. Even though they are different measurements,it won't hurt your recipe results. Even if you do love the chocolate.

Everyone who's said that 1 cup is 8 ounces is correct about that fact, but that fact is pertinent only if the chocolate chips are melted to be liquid. The fact that we're talking about chocolate chips and not liquid makes 1 cup of them equal to 6 oz.
