So, I'm getting married by the end of 2007, and I know I have tons to do. I'm moving into his house, so I know I need to buy some new stuff. I'm sure all of his stuff is old, and I'm sure his ex picked it all out.
Anyway, what kind of preparations do I need to do? What did you do a year before your wedding? I've already got my dress picked out. The wedding is going to be at a house. I've got the main stuff already done, I just need to know about all the small stuff I need to do? Any suggestions?

My best friend is getting married, and I've been asked to be a groomsman. For some reason, I have to wear a kilt. The groom is wearing his family's tartan. Because the best man has a different clan he will wear his clan’s tartan and this forces me to pick my own tartan. I have no Scottish blood, only Irish which is maternal grandmother's mom and British from dad's side (immigration in 1840's), what tartan should I wear? Or should I fake an illness on his wedding day?

What is proper way to tell those being invited to reception that we would like these instead of typical wedding gifts, towels, etc. We are having a private ceremony with a Luau reception a couple of weeks after our wedding. Thanks!

Some of the obvious ones that I know of are:

"I"ll Be Watching You" by Sting (nothing like dancing cheek-to-cheek with your new spouse to a vintage 80s song about an obsessive stalker, is there?)

"Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" by Phil Collins (about a break up)

"We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger (unless I'm mistaken, it's about a guy begging for a one-night stand)

Well, I don't want to take words out of anyone's mouths, so I'll stop there. Also, why do you think people choose inappropriate songs? Do they just not pay attention to the lyrics? Or do they have odd senses of humor? Or perhaps they just don't give a crap?

Or does etiquette dictate that you open the gift after the wedding and send your thanks then? (Nobody who knows me would really believe I would wait a month to open a gift.)

Next month I will be married. I want to take my husbands last name and keep my first and middle. The problem I face is that I have MANY legal documents with my maiden name. Can I legally hyphenate with my maiden and married last name, but only use my married name in social situations, on checks, credit cards, etc. Any advice on what I should do?

O.K. my friends have a few gift registries at places like yonkers and target, and I want to get them something. However, since their wedding is out-of-state, I cannot attend. Do the stores ship the gifts to them, or to the wedding? Or do they pick them up from the store? How does that work.....or do they ship it to me, and do I give them the gift before, or after the wedding?

My fiance bought me the most beautiful engagement ring and I absolutely love it. I know he spent a good bit of money on it and I really like wearing it alone. Our wedding is in October and I was wondering if I can just keep that ring and use it as my wedding ring or do I have to purchase and additional ring to wear with the engagement ring as a wedding band? We do not have a lot of surplus income so I feel like it is a waste of money to buy another ring if I am happy with just one.

For people who didn't have gift registry.( It's not a chinese tradition) My husband and I spent alot on my banquet, and some friends got me 5 dollar gifts one even brought extra person. It's about 80 dollars per person, We are very mad at these people and we don't ever want to talk to them anymore. Would you blame us for doing that? Don't you agree that weddings are not a good time to take advantage of friends( newly weds).

My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and have a one and a half year old daughter. We planned a trip to Las Vegas in a month and I found out today that I am pregnant with our second child. I have not told him about it yet. We have only discussed marriage twice since we have been together, and I was thinking about telling him about the pregnancy over our trip and see if he wanted to get married while we were there. Does anyone think that this is the right way to go about this.---Keep in mind I am not looking for soemone to tell me "yall should have gotten married before kids" Just asking if this is the way to go from here. Thanks for any advice.

My finace and i are getting married a year from now in houston, Texas and cant really agree on a reasonable cost for the wedding. We plan on sending out about 200 invitatiions and want to have it in the catholic church....as for reception details were unsure of and still wanna do some research on djs bands catering cakes etc..my finace says for instance ok were gonna spend 7000 dollars (which to me sounds like its not nearly enough for all of the things that are the must haves at weddings like cake food flowers etc....im not referring to chocolate fountians ice sculptors or all the other little things that are added extras, all i really want is flowers and candle center pieces at the reception as my decor..) I told my fiance that before we set some budget whether it be 7000 dollars or 20000 dollars we need to do some shopping around to get more realistic prices of things and from there decidred on an appropriate budget. So just how much should we be prepared to spend?

My oldest friend is getting married next spring, and has asked me to be a bridesmaid (NOT the maid of honor). What are my duties, responsibilities, and privileges, traditionally? I know I don't give a speech at the reception, but what do I do?

Am I at all responsible for the bachelorette party? For any part of the wedding? Do I need to do any planning, or will my friend, the bride, just tell me what she needs? Am I allowed to invite a date to the wedding, though I'll be sitting at the head table?

Any experience / expertise will be welcome. Thanks!

I've been on The Knot and The Wedding Channel which have all been extremely helpful, but I was wondering if there were anymore sites on the web similar to these. I'm looking for something where I can find a variety of wedding gowns too. Thanks!
