Some of the obvious ones that I know of are:

"I"ll Be Watching You" by Sting (nothing like dancing cheek-to-cheek with your new spouse to a vintage 80s song about an obsessive stalker, is there?)

"Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" by Phil Collins (about a break up)

"We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger (unless I'm mistaken, it's about a guy begging for a one-night stand)

Well, I don't want to take words out of anyone's mouths, so I'll stop there. Also, why do you think people choose inappropriate songs? Do they just not pay attention to the lyrics? Or do they have odd senses of humor? Or perhaps they just don't give a crap?

The song has meaning to them, (it was playing when we met, etc)
In a way its more honest than searching for a song with all the right words, but it has no history with the couple.
They know what the words mean, and they know what the song means to them, they have chosen to ignore the rules.
I've never DJ'ed a wedding where the couple didn't chose the first dance, if left up to the DJ you would hear what the crowd likes

Most inappropriate at a wedding I attended was the couple dancing to a song called "Silver Wings". It's a country song and it's about an airplane taking the girl away (flying away) from the guy and I believe an intimation in the end of it, that one of them dies!

"I Will Always Love You" as sung by either Whitney Houston or Dolly Parton. I've heard of this being played at a number of weddings. It seems all they pay attention to are the words in the title and don't seem to understand that the song is about a break up - lol

There are tons of songs, People just tend to like the songs and think they should have them played but don't really think of the lyrics.

Someone commented to me at a wedding last year "how could anyone play 'I Will Survive' at a wedding?" Although everyone knows it and it is extremely danceable, the lyrics are just not appropriate for a wedding!
