I was in the military and thought about staying in. Because we would need to be married for her to go with me, we talked about getting married. She asked me if it was ok if she could book a photograpgher just in case I stayed in the Air Force, and I said sure. I decided not to stay in and just finish my enlistment. So I thought that since I was not staying in we did not need to get married. I want everyone to know that I love her very much and that we have only been together for 18 months but, total time spent together is only 6 months. Anyway, I come back from Louisiana to find out that her and her mom have booked a reception hall, church, wedding date, put a guest list together, and told me where we are going on the honeymoon. The problem, is that I have never even proposed to her. She has no ring and I have been yelled at by her and her family about why she does not have a ring. I NEVER PROPOSED TO HER! I'm not ready to get married. What do I say so her family won't hate me? Thanks.

Just wondering, one of my bridemaids recommended a place for cleaning and boxing my wedding dress. Well, when I really got thinking about it- yeah it's a nice dress that cost 1,200 but it's made out of polyester (not silk like a really good or old dress)..... and most people don't rewear their mother's dresses unless they are really nice and vintage. Most of my friends have their mother's dress and their wedding dress in the attic. So instead of paying all that extra money to have it cleaned and boxed to throw it in my crawl space- I am thinking about selling it on ebay after the wedding.
Anyone ever sell their dress and wish they didn't?? If so please tell me why!
Thanks!!

Do I have to wear nylons/stockings with my wedding dress? Is there a specific reason to wear them? My dress has a layer of satin material under the whole thing. The wedding is in June.

Has anyone been left at the altar or been the one to leave? Just wondering if this happens in real life or just the movies. Share your story.

Hi,

My bridal shower is on April Fool's Day which is right before Easter so I was thinking of somehow incorporating either April Fool's Day or Easter into my shower favors. The only idea I have is little easter baskets filled with the grass and maybe little candies or something. Any other ideas?

I'm not getting married until Sept. 2008 but I've already found the reception hall that I want. Is it to soon to make an appointment to talk with them and book the hall?

I have booked a wedding for September 16th. Everything is turning out, A-Okay, just untill last night I found out I was pregnant. I did the math myself, so around November I should have this baby with my husband. No one in the family knows yet but the wedding must go on! Regardless, pregnant or not. Although, I refuse to have the wedding with such a big belly. I was thinking of fast pacing the wedding for the next 2-3 months. Fortunately, the recpetion manager is letting us do that (without taking our deposit). So we decided to have the wedding sooner than usual. However, I don't think I want to do in August or July, since it's so hot and I will be cranky as hell. Then I figured, June, but not, May.. my mom's identical twin sister passed away in May. So all I have left is, April and June. What are you suggestions, ideas, comments and recommendations. I need help and advice, ASAP!

I gave the measuresment to the bride and got back a dress that is too small. I don't know how the measurements resulted in their selection of this size. I could lose weight around the waist to fit into it, but I can only zip it up 1/2 way as it is. I'm already pretty thin too-- the dress is by an esteemed designer and is in a size 4.

I don't want to be an odd ball at the wedding by getting alterations that will make the dress look different. I'm clueless about bridal dresses so I'm not sure what's possible? How do I pick a place to get the alterations done when I don't know anyone around the new area I'm living in to give me a referral?

I'd appreciate ANY advice (even if its a web link or search terms I can use for the internet)

Thanks in advance!!

My mom has 7 brothers and sisters, and all but 2 of them live out of town. Those that are in town are not the best people to have at family gatherings. They can be rude and have alcohol problems, plus family problems, and they only ever contact my mom when they need money. Two of them did not attend their own mother's funeral, nor my mom's wedding.
However, my mom is jealous that I am closer to my dad's family, and is making me invite all of her family so it will be "even", and says that they probably won't come. I know that there is a chance they might, and if so, I really don't want them there. My parents are buying all the food so they say it's not my decision on who is invited since I'm not paying for them to be there.
Is is fair for me to take the chance to have people I do not want at my wedding when they have not taken the chance to be involved in our lives? Is it ok to tell my mom fine, invite them, but if they come I will not be very social with them?

My brother is getting married. My husband, myself and my three young children are all in the bridal party. We have incurred a lot of expense purchasing dresses, shoes, tux's etc, not to mention gifts and other expenses associated with the wedding day. The sister of the bride is planning a shower at a restaurant and has now asked all the girls in the bridal party to pitch in towards the cost. Is this proper etiquette? I always thought the bride's family paid for the shower.

I am a Certified Wedding Planner and I read these boards and listen to brides ask questions like

"Is it ok to ask for money?"
"How do I get the most gifts presents at a shower?"
"How can I get around feeding my guests?"

Traditionally in the Victorian Era weddings were held in your home and as our circle of friends and families got larger weddings moved to banquets halls outside of the home.

You are still to treat your guest as if they were in your home. So you don't ask them to pay for drinks, or cheap out on food or ask for money.

They your wedding guests not sponsors they are not there to pay for the event.

If you can't afford a big wedding than have a small one.

I thought about having a Candlelight Ceremony. It would start about 7:30-8:00P.M. at night in the late summer/early fall. My fiance says that guests will still EXPECT a sit down dinner. I say that late at night people will want cocktails and appetizers and deserts. People generally do not like to eat that heavy that late in the night.(9 P.M.ish) What do you think? Have you ever attended any reception like that?
Thanks!

My mother and sister are throwing my fiance and I an engagement party in two weeks. We know that we are having lots of food and drinks at my mom's house. But we were wondering what else is done at an engagement party? Are their games? I've never been to one so I don't know. I think food and drinks are fine, right?
