Just wondering, one of my bridemaids recommended a place for cleaning and boxing my wedding dress. Well, when I really got thinking about it- yeah it's a nice dress that cost 1,200 but it's made out of polyester (not silk like a really good or old dress)..... and most people don't rewear their mother's dresses unless they are really nice and vintage. Most of my friends have their mother's dress and their wedding dress in the attic. So instead of paying all that extra money to have it cleaned and boxed to throw it in my crawl space- I am thinking about selling it on ebay after the wedding.
Anyone ever sell their dress and wish they didn't?? If so please tell me why!
Thanks!!

My dress is really plain with a little beading at the waist and the edge of the dress. I though about making into something else but it would just be ivory polyester.... won't look like much if it was made into something else.

No, the opposite. I kept my wedding dress and regret it. It's just hanging there... It's of heavy bridal satin and is really fancy with crystals, sequins, pearls, appliques... but I wish now I would have sold it not long after the wedding.
Sell it. I'm really a sentimental person and a packrat kind of woman with tonnes of memorabilia, but don't see the point of keeping a wedding gown.

I didn't sell mine. Actually, I haven't even cleaned it yet. Hmm...I gotta get on that.
It's really a personal choice whether you want to keep it. Perhaps a future generation might want to wear it, or might want to have it altered into something she would want to wear. Or, maybe it will just gather dust.
But really, I think you should make this decision AFTER you get married. You might look at it, remember all the memories of your wedding day, and decide that you can't possibly sell it. Or, perhaps it will just be a dress after the wedding, albeit an expensive one. You'll know, after the wedding, whether or not you can part with it. And hey, if you keep it and change your mind later, you can always sell it then.

I'm still trying to sell mine from my first marriage. It cost me $1300 without alterations. I'm only asking $100 but nobody bites even though they claim it's gorgeous. (Which it is!) I so need to get it out of the house because it's memories of a bad relationship. I like the donation idea.
The dress from this marriage I'll keep for a good long time. It's an elegant black dress. My husband doesn't mind if I wear it for special occasions!

I made my wedding dress so it has more than just 'sentimental' value to me. It would have never fit my oldest daughter because she is bigger than I was when I got married. If one of my kids wants to, I will cut it to make a Christening gown, the fabric is pretty darned awesome and then it would be good for a few generations to come. That would be something you could do. OR I have seen where people cut the dress down and make just a fancy dress.... whatever floats your boat!

I had the same problem after my wedding. I didn't want to pay for it to sit in a box for ever and new that one day my daughter would never wear it. I also didn't like the idea of someone else wearing my dress. So one month after my wedding I found out I was pregnant. I took my dress to a seamstress and had a baptism gown and matching blanket made. She also made three throw pillows that are on my bed for decoration. I get to use my dress everyday. And I saved the gown and blanket and my grandchildren will use it one day. If anyone wants to see pictures email me and I will send them. Hope this helps!

I've never been married, but Another option is donating the dress to charity. My best friend was going to do that with hers, until I talked her out of it (I'm sentimental like that). and maybe you can even get a tax deduction or something, so you're doing something good AND saving some $$. Good luck!

Not me. I kept mine and still put it on and sashay about periodically.
I had a Celtic wedding and made a 15th century Great Kilt in Wallace hunting tartan wool.

Dont do it. I lent mine to someone and never got it back. I regret doing that dearly, I want my dress back.
Its not a good idea.
