My mother and sister are throwing my fiance and I an engagement party in two weeks. We know that we are having lots of food and drinks at my mom's house. But we were wondering what else is done at an engagement party? Are their games? I've never been to one so I don't know. I think food and drinks are fine, right?

An engagement party is just a time for everyone to come and congratulate the two of you. Toasts are made to your future, food is eaten and hugs are all around. Not much else happens. You will get peppered with questions about your wedding date and your ideas and also you get will alot of unwanted and unsolicited advice, just smile through it all. (By the end you will want to pull out your hair, but be gracious about it) Thats about it, no games or favors, and I would suggest not opening gifts either. This is because not everyone brings gifts to an engagement party and you dont want people feeling uncomfortable that they didnt get you anything. Just thank everyone for their thoughtfulness and open them after everyone has gone.

Best wishes!!

Not really anything else done at an engagement party. Really just a party - at home - for people to celebrate with you and congratulate you and your partner for becoming engaged.
Food, drinks, music, and good family and friends is all you need.
Enjoy and Good Luck for your future together. Hope all goes well.

Food and drinks are great a little music, you could add a visitors book for people to write in, maybe a wedding hints and tips suggestion, leave these around the house with pens for people to fill in, but don't make it compulsary. You'll get some lovely suggestions possibly some silly ones depending on how much has been drunk but it's something that can be kept to look back on.

Yes food, drink, music and lots of socialising. As the night gets going some people may want to dance.
