Has anyone been left at the altar or been the one to leave? Just wondering if this happens in real life or just the movies. Share your story.

I was in a church choir a few years ago, and they told me that a couple of years before I joined, they'd been booked to sing at a wedding. Apparently the couple had had a bad row the night before the wedding. Well the bride turned up and there was the groom standing at the altar, waiting for her. She glided up the aisle and the priest began "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here together," etc. When he asked the bride if she would take this man to be her wedded husband, love him, comfort him etc, the bride opened her mouth and replied "No." There was a shocked gasp. The priest asked the bride again, "Will you take this man to be your wedded husband . . ." etc. Again the bride answered "No." So the priest signalled to the choir, and the choir and clergy rose and processed out of the church, leaving the family and guests to sort it out. I have no idea whether they ever patched it up and did get married but that wedding day was ruined and I don't know if he would ever have trusted her again.

Can't say as I've seen it happen personally... but it DOES happen. Not LITERALLY at the alter perhaps (although I'm sure it happens), but... well, Julia Roberts took of with the best man the night before her wedding once.

So... it happens. Probably just not commonly.
