What are some of the most well known songs? You know, stuff like swing, from the 40's and such. The only one I can think of is "Sing Sing Sing" right now... My grandparents would love it (my grandpa played drums in a swing band back in the day) and I like it too, I think it would be something different for a wedding. So far I have a lot of oldies, like beatles, the temps, "shout", "the twist", rolling stones "wild horses"... Guess I have an older music lovers soul inside me somewhere!

Need a good excuse why im not going to be able to make it to a wedding. The wedding is for a guy that ive known since I started college. I live with one of his close friends. We arent best friends or anything more like acquaintances that sometimes hangout. One of my best friends is the guy he lives with. We graduate in 1 month, so I still see everyone alot... I am not in the wedding, his wife scares me....

Hello, this is my situation, I am still confused on how i can explain this, here it goes. I received an invitation in the mail to attend a wedding of a guy ive known in college. My roommate and alot of my friends are going to be in the wedding. I am struggling with my decision. Should I go or not go. If I decided to not go I dont know what I would say. " Oh, sorry I didnt feel like it" I think my excuse would have to be a bit better than that. I really am not excited about it at all considering that I will know very few people, have to drive long distances, feel isolated, etc...On the other hand I feel as though I would betray him by not attending. No reason would suffice because it is his wedding. I still havent sent in the rsvp, but I assume I better send it in with something checked off.

Some co-workers and I were invited to another co-workers sons wedding. We don't know the son and we haven’t worked with the dad very long. We were wondering what is the proper etiquette in turning down an invitation, or is it really rude not to go? We were thinking about getting a gift from all of us, and declining the invitation. Advise please?

I'm trying to figure out what to put as the dress code for the invitations. (I need to have a dress code because the ceremony is in a cathedral and the cathedral won't let people who are inappropriately dressed into the ceremony). - I'm dead set on having it at this particular location since I grew up going to this church.
Here are my wedding details (if its helps in picking a dress code):
- Large, very ornate cathdral
- NYC in mid/late February
- Ceremony starts at 4 pm (that is the latest they let me have it)
- Plaza Hotel for reception (yay! it's almost done with renovations)
-Seated dinner for 300 guests
-Bridesmaids are in floor length black strapless satin gowns with opera gloves (which has been o.k.-ed by the preist for the church)

What should I put on the invite if anything? Black Tie? (White tie is too excessive, I think) Black tie optional? invited? Semni-Formal?

*Only serious answers, I have decided on this type of wedding and I'm only asking for dress code wording* Thanks

My future mother-in-law called me and asked me about my wedding gifts. Her friend (who we invited to the wedding) wanted to know if we wanted something off our wedding registry or if we wanted something a little bit 'different' as a gift. When I asked my MIL what her friend meant by 'different' she said 'oh, like a nice peice of pottery or something....'

My response was "Tell her I appreciate the thought and that she doesn't have to get us anything but if she wants to, I'm really picky about what I put in the house..." My MIL said 'oh, okay.' but I got the impression that I might have offended her.

Did I step over the line instead of accepting the 'something different' graciously?

I'm getting married later this year and have no Mom or sisters to throw me a shower. And unfornately my best friend isn't speaking to me anymore because of her boyfriend.
My Matron of Honor is my only attendant and lives across the US.
My fiances Mom likes me but, seems bothered when I ask her to go with me to do wedding things.
How & Who should I ask to throw my bridal shower?

I want to first state that I live in a part of the country where open bars are very uncommon, so keep that in mind...

My wedding reception will be held at a place where they do not sell alcohol, so we have to bring in our own and not sell it. We will have about 135 guests, most of them do drink, most don't very heavily.

We are planning on having 3 kegs of beer, 25 bottles of wine, 3 1.75 liters of Captain Morgan, 2 1.75 liters of brandy, 2 1.75 liters of whiskey, 2 1.75 liters of vodka, 2 liters of Baileys, 2 liters of Midori, and 2 liters of Amaretto. Do you think this will be enough for a six hour reception?? We'll have various mixes for the liquor also. And does this sounds like a fair enough variety - there will be no other alcohol available, not even for purchase.

Thanks for any help!!

he has 2 sisters and one of them will definitely be in the wedding along w/my sister and best friend. is it rude not to invite the other, younger sister? we're not close and she's 17. the other sister is 31. i could go either way since 3 or 4 isn't much of a difference but i just can't decide. are there any guidelines to this?

I would like to invite my dad's boss who is someone I have known for several years, to the reception but he is dating a woman that I refuse to have anywhere around on our special day. I know that whoever is put on the outside of the envelope is who is invited and I plan to just put my dad's bosses name on the envelope but if this person RSVPs back as two people coming or worse yet--this person that I don't want there shows up with him even though the RSVP was for one person, which is entirely possible because that is something that this woman would do, how do I handle that without ruining the whole day? My dad's boss is aware of my wishes not to have anything to do with his girlfriend therefore there will be no friction between my dad and his boss. I will know that this woman is there--the reception is not all that large and she is a very very very loud woman. They do not live togehter--they are just dating.
