consantly criticises everyone, is never happy about anything and moans all the time. She's 80, independant although frail. I try my best to see her every fortnight for a few days [I live 300 miles away] and my brother does what he can but he's got a demanding job and a young family. My other brother hardly does anything cos mum can't stand his wife so can't blame him really. Its got to the point now where I just wish she would quietly go away as the constant nastiness is wearing me down when I speak to her [3 or 4 times a week]. She now wants to come and spend a week wih me but I know she finds my flat cold, cramped and anything else she can complain about. I want her to stay in a b&b 3 doors away but then it'll be 'you don't want me in your house'. I've also got to work, and she knows this, the week she'll be here but she'll moan about that too. Any suggestions on how to cope without the aid of barcadi or other stuff?? I don't want to fall out with her at her age.

I have been in a relationship with a guy for ten years. He has a daughter from a previous relationship who is 23. She has been at University. We have given her £50 a month towards helping her out as has her mother. She refused to get a job in a bar, cleaning or a fast food joint. She worked Sunday mornings answering the phone in a car dealership. We have bailed her out a couple of times duirng the 4 years she has been at Uni to the tune of several hundred pounds, so has her mother I believe. Also whilst she was a teenager she had her own phone/internet access which she repeatedly ran up bills of in excess of £100 a month. Now my dilemma is this. My partner bought some BAA shares when his daughter was little and they are now being bought out and are worth £2,500. Do you think he should just hand over the money to his daughter? We have a daugther together also who is 6 plus we have some debts which this money would really help with.

growing up i watched my mother deal with her anger and rage by yelling at the top of her lungs, and using profanity and cutting deep when arguing with my father, her 2nd and 3rd husbands, boyfriends, me and my sister. i absolutely hated it, it caused me much pain and sadness and even had an effect on both my and my sisters self esteem. unfortunatly recently i noticed, i have begun to repeat the cycle with my fiance. i fear that i learned this awful habit from her and i will eventually lose him because of it, or worse if we have children, i will damage them in the way my mother damaged us. i know therapy is probably best, but unfortunatly, economics are an issue. does anyone out there know of any information on how to deal with this problem that i might be able to find in the library, or online. please someone help, i'm desperate. thank you

My son will be a year old next month. His biological father comes to see him about once a month for an hour or so. I know as my son grows the bio dad is probably going to want to be more involved ...when there are no diaprs, bottles ...etc. The only dad my son really knows is my fiance who I have been with since I found out I was pregnant. My son doesn't understand any of this yet of course. But I guess I am looking for advice on what to as he gets older. How do I explain to him that he has 2 "dads" Is there anyway I can keep the bio dad out of the picture? If he takes me to court what are his chances of getting visitation due to the fact that he has almost no involvement for a year or at any time during the pregnancy? Any advice would be helpful. Also my son has my fiances last name. Though bio dad said he wanted it changed he has yet to get the paper work I told him he needed. If the baby is over 1 yr it has to go through the courts. Do you think they will make me change his name?

When my kids, a boy and a girl, lived with me I emphasized the importance of trust. Both good kids, but when my boy was 15 once he went to places he had compromised not to go. It wasn't anyhing so bad, just a mistake many kids make, but I wanted to show the importance of trust and maybe went overboard. He apologized, explained he gave in to peer pressure. He was grounded for a month and I told him he'd have to get my trust back, so for 2 months I controlled his moves, showing I wasnt' sure he'd keep his word. Then, everything was OK again. But he got very upset, extremely hurt, told me there was no reason for that, I had tortured him for a small mistake and hadnt been a loving father. He never got over that and since then our relationship has been extremely icy. Now I'm going through hard days, asked him some money, he lent and I promised to pay yesterday but couldnt. He said OK but reminded me of what I did to him when he was a boy and now it was me who broke his trust

My older brother is 24 and his girlfriend is 21. They have been together for almost 2 years now (and they live together) but have known each other for 10 years (his girlfriend was my best friend through middle & high school). This past year, she has changed so much. She treats my brother horribly - calls him names, talks behind his back to HIS friends, etc. Well recently, she told a mutual friend that she went to see her ex-boyfriend. He now calls her all the time (she changed her number when her and my bro started dating so I don't know how her ex got her number). A mutual friend also said her car has been spotted at her ex's house... I honestly think she is cheating on my brother. I want to tell him what I think but I don't want to hurt him, make him mad at me or cause drama. What do you think I should do?

Long story short yesterday 2 guys put a gun up to my father's head and made him let them into our house. So when they came in they threatened to kill my brother unless he gave him his car keys and money. They made me, my 2 brothers, my parents, and my baby niece and nephew sit in my brothers' room until he gave up the stuff. One of the guys even pointed the gun at my baby nephew whose only 3 years old. After my brother handed over the stuff one of the guys got mad and wanted to kill my brother. After everybody started yelling they didn't and they ran out of the house. Now we're really moving next month and for the time being I feel weird in the house. I don't even wanna be on the porch, let alone by the outside door. What can I do to make myself feel more safe? I'm only 14

My little brother is about to get deployed to Afghanistan. The Army is GREAT about offering support resources to parents and spouses, but I don't think they remember that siblings harbour just as much worry and strife through the process. How can I find a support group in my local area that might help me through this process? Any suggestions about keeping in touch with him while he's away?

We have a nephew who is in his 20s (we are in our 30s w/14 yr old daughter) and is in the USCG. He seems to be "on shore leave" every few weeks and will just show up at our house without calling, or will give short notice ("hey i'm on the way") before coming. When he arrives, he tends to basically sit around, watch TV, eat our food and make a mess. He basically comes and goes like it is his own home.

At first we had no problem accomodating him. In fact, prior to his enlisting in the USCG, he lived with us for a period of time. But even then, his plan was to stay "one month," but after he spent all his savings in one week, one month became more like four months.

My wife is now in her ninth month of pregnancy and his act of just showing up is beginning to wear on us both.

Does anyone find this rude and/or inconsiderate? How do we broach this topic with him w/o hurting feelings? I'm trying to understand why I'm so bent out of shape about it....

On St. Patricks day I went in a limo with some of my family and we went around to different bars. Everyone got drunk and my cousin and I got into a huge fight. She said the most horrible hurtful things to me. No one stopped her and she just continued. Then out of nowhere she jumped at me and started hitting me and pulling my hair. I couldn't really fight back because I was sitting and she was standing. I don't ever want to speak to her again but I want her to know that she is never allowed to be in my life again. I'm very depressed about this and I don't know what to do. Someone please help me.
