Long story short yesterday 2 guys put a gun up to my father's head and made him let them into our house. So when they came in they threatened to kill my brother unless he gave him his car keys and money. They made me, my 2 brothers, my parents, and my baby niece and nephew sit in my brothers' room until he gave up the stuff. One of the guys even pointed the gun at my baby nephew whose only 3 years old. After my brother handed over the stuff one of the guys got mad and wanted to kill my brother. After everybody started yelling they didn't and they ran out of the house. Now we're really moving next month and for the time being I feel weird in the house. I don't even wanna be on the porch, let alone by the outside door. What can I do to make myself feel more safe? I'm only 14

I can't believe your father didn't call the police. You need to call the police. There is something here you don't know I'm sure. Why wouldn't your parents call the cops??????? Tell another adult at school. Your parents cannot be trusted if they are not doing anything more to protect their children. This is sad, especially for a little 3-year old. I would turn your parents in if I knew where you lived.

WOW, that sounds intense. Why didn't you all call the cops after they left. I'm sure you seen what they looked like. Just keep ur doors locked and look outside before answering the door(through peep hole or window). Put 911 on speed dial and keep a phone near you. Lock all ur windows also. Pray to God your family stays safe. If you have a dog, hang around him, he might make you feel better. Or I guess any animal that you love that you have that can comfort you. If you call the cops they could maybe keep watch over ur block every so often. Good luck and stay safe.

Sorry to hear this took place, it must of been so scary! I hope the police were contacted in this situation. The police can set it up so they do drive byes so you feel a little more safe. Keep your doors locked and don't open it to strangers. You know if you are spectacle of someone being around put a call into 911 emergency. I hope these guys were arrested after what they did! Cocoa

Wow, I am so sorry for your ordeal. I can only imagine how frightening that must have been for you.

I am sure that there is little I can say to make you feel better or safer in your home, unfortunately you have suffered a horrific experience.

The only assurance I can give you is that the odds are that the attackers won't return to the home.

This is not going to be a fast recovery for you to feel safer, but I think you should talk to someone close to you, counselor, parent, teacher, etc. In this time, I think you will need the support of those around you to make you feel safer.

Of coure you're going to feel weird in the house, after all of that just happpened. I'm really sorry that is a horrible situation and can be very traumatizing. Just always make sure the doors are locked or if you can maybe stay the night with one of your friends for awhile. Maybe all of you can stay with another family member until you move?

Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Watch your back. I'm a single mother with kids and when I haven't had access to a gun, I keep a big wooden bat beside my bed and a can of mace in my pocketbook. You are very young to have gone through this ordeal but thank God, no-one was hurt. That was an aweful quick course in reality, but learn from it by keeping your eyes and ears open at all times. I definately understand not feeling safe in that house. Pray, really! God can give us peace when no-one or nothing else can! I don't know what it would take for me, but I wish you luck and God be with you and your family.

You can start by talking with your family about the company they keep. How would the robbers know what was in your home?...Did anyone know them or are you a victim of geography? Maybe you can speak to your family about next time everyone needs new sneakers or something, you can all sacrifice something to save for safety devices for the house. Talk to them about not opening the door for people they do not know. I am sorry for the welfare of your life. If you are in danger, talk to a school councelor about getting help. It wouldn't hurt to see what advice they may have. Good luck.

A police report should have been filed if not it should be done to document the trouble. Move quickly and try very hard to keep the new location secret. Have a camera available to take pictures if they return but don't let them see you doing it. You should have reported the car stolen.
