Family - December 2006

OK this is the thing my brother in law is 26 years old with no job and a girlfriend (that just got out of jail last week!) she has three kids (not his) They have no money I feel bad for the kids! My mother in law babys him so bad and sends him money all the time and expects us to do the same. She is in major debt($) for him! Not to mention the stress this causes her! Whenever we tell her to quit and make him grow up she tells us we dont understand. How can we help her stop and let him take care of himself? Or are we being harsh for feeling this way?

so i did't get much.
I am now in my 30's with a 3 year old girl, i work hard and now i've got a few quid.
I will be the first tot admit i spoil her, i want her to have all the things i never had,is this bad?

My mum is always going on at me that i spend to much on my daughter, is she jellous that i can give her nice things, things she could not give me??

i could not face Thanksgiving because my Husband died on me after being married 33 years so how do i get though Christmas without messing up everyones day.because it hurt when you see your husband drop to the floor.

I moved across country a few years ago with my cousin/roommate. We were very close as children, but as adults we hardly knew each other. From the start there were problems. I know I can be set in my ways so I agreed to be patient with the situation under the belief that things would get better.

Well, things never got better, they got progressively worse. I am now to the point where I actually can not stand the sight of her. She is loud, rude, filthy, irresponsible (especially when it comes to money & paying the bills on time) and a bigot. She is ethnic herself yet she harbors these classist opinions about other people of various race and education that makes her seem like a black David Duke. I find some of her comments disgusting which is why I barely talk to her.

I want to leave but I somewhat feel pressure to stay. Knowing how careless she is I feel like if I am not around she will end up homeless and our family will blame me. I don't want to cause more friction. Help!

I babysit my brother and his wife two kids as a second job. My other job is being a sales associate and you if you ever worked in retail it's crazy during the holiday season. You are working extra hours. Anyway since the week of thanksgiving i've have only been given one day off per week. I watch my brother's kid five days a week. Anyway my brother's wife asked me to stay late (one hour)so she could go to the gym. When i told her that i only get one day off during the weekday, she acted as if she doesn't care. My question is should i stay behind late during the only day i have off, or should i tell her no. Keep in mind i've stayed late before so she could go to happy hour with her coworkers, she never ever offered me a ride to work or home unless it's convient for her

I have two teenage daughters. They are both very disrespectfull and do not follow the rules of our house. I give them times to be home, they come home when they feel like it. They have been caught drinking and they think it is not a big deal. I have tried several different punishments, NOTHING works. I don't think hitting is the answer!! Please help me to figure out what to do !!

I'm alittle bummed b/c not all the girls in office went to lunch yesterday b/c they were short on cash. today two barely said happy birthday. i don't give gifts to receive but i'm alittle hurt they didn't get me anything b/c we always exchange.
even if low on cash they could email a card or get me a candle at dollar store. i hate to sound selfish and greedy but i plan all the bdays here and when they asked me about lunch i told them it's fine to wait until january. they all said no and then backed out last minute. i told one she hurt my feelings b/c we have been friends for 10 years and i'm over it now. ok i'm done venting. we are having boston cream pie after lunch b/c too full yesterday.

My brother died last year on December 15, in a totally uncalled for accident. He was 17, a senior, and destined for all the best things and before I knew it....he was gone. But now that the anniversary is coming on, my parents are always at me. I'm the only other child they have, and while i do my best to support their whimsical little trips and notions of 'family time', it's getting way to hard for me. I need to be alone sometimes, with my thoughts otherwise I just kind of lose it, and thats the last thing I should do in this situation. How do I handle it?

my nephew, whom i have to care for for a while, has no friends that i am aware of. he talks to no one...other than who he must, to get by. he goes nowhere. everyday he comes home from work, and goes up to his room. he does nothing (other than a part time job). he has no hobbies. he has no goals. he doesn't have any interests and has NEVER even been on a date. he is 21, almost 22.

is this cause for concern or is it something that will pass??? or is it perhaps kinda normal??? if it is cause for concern, how much???

gave my husband an Ipod for his birthday and he lets his 8 year old son use it. His son has lost two expensive games of his own, has an Ipod of his own but not the latest. IT bothers me that he is allowed to grab it out of his dad's hands and play with it. For some reason it bothers me, even though in my mind I know a gift is a gift, with no strings attached. What mind exersice can I do to get over this?

I asked this yeserday but feel like I didn't give enough details. So, here it goes again? My son turned two last Thursday. My in-laws who live 7 miles away didn't called nor came to see us. The party was set for Sunday. Friday they call to say that my mother in-laws brothers wifes mother died & the visitation will be Sunday night. It is a 4 hour trip so they will not make it to the party. But, they are coming home that night & not going to the funeral on Monday. Saturday my husband lets them know that we are hurt about the party. But they still go. We fell like they could have stayed home for the party & then went to the funeral. My husband is the only kid they have that is not on drugs & raising his kids. We never ask them for anything. We are the ones they depend on when they need something. And yes there will be other parties, but my feeling are still hurt! I told my "dad" how we feel but my "mom" has yet to talk to us or see our kids! So are we being silly? What do we do now?

I really want to get something nice for my grandfather for Christmas. But for some reason he always buys what he wants right around the holidays. I asked him why and he says that they are to expensive and he doesn't feel right asking for them. Plus he has pretty much everything because he buys the best and he doesn't have to worry about the whole price thing. I love him to death and he's done so much for me. I was thinking of getting him an ornament for the tree and getting his name put on it. I think that would be thoughtful and I'm sure he hasn't got that for himself... at least I hope. Ha ha.
