My 21 year old sister has recently begun dating a man who has some serious psychological problems. He tried to kill himself in front of his now exgirlfriend a year ago. He is now using his suicide attempt and the fact that he still thinks about killing himself to manipulate my sister. She feels so sorry for him that she can not see this. She was a very family oriented and caring independent thinker until she began seeing this guy. Now all of a sudden he makes all of her decisions for her. She was scheduled for her first Pap and he told her to cancel the appointment, she did not need it. The same day our Uncle had a serious accident. She was asked to go to the hospital to be with my Grandma and cousin. He told her that there was no reason for her to be at the hospital and to stay home. She has also confided in me that he is very jealous, she was going out with coworkers one night and he wanted her to stay home cause some were men. How do we make her see the light she will not listen?

I don't have any children, but I have some friends in this postion. If a father pays his child support every month, should he be required or asked for additional money from the mother???? For example, extra money for back to school, school pictures, dances, sports, etc. You know the extra added expenses or should this be factored into the child support already given?

My husband and I have not talked to his parents in over two years because of a few things they said and had done. Our sister-in-law left her phone over at our house the other day and when she came to get it, my brother-in-law asked her what kind of pictures she had on her phone, which immediately led her to believe that my husband and I looked at their phone, which we did not. I believe these pictures to be pornography of themselves - otherwise, something that he nor I would look at. We have tried talking to them and nothing works. They had 3 of our video games and returned 2, claiming that their son had gotten a hold of one (my bro in law loves the game that they claim was destroyed) and they also have a DVD box set. They are saying they do not want to talk to us, which is fine with me, because I don't take too well to being accused of something I did not do. How would you have handled this situation, and what is the best way to get what is ours? Any advice would be appreciated. TY!!

I am so sick and tired of my brother, he thinks that he can have 50% of my money for no reason at all!! We agreed that once my mom gives me back the money she owes me, I'll use it to fix up my computer, but he thinks we should split that money even though he just bought a pair of $80 shoes!! I need something to calm my nerves before I end up hurting someone, I didn't spent 2 years saving up so I can see half of it go to my brother!! It's just not fair. He's supposed to be the responsible one because he's oldest. (I need to calm down)

My sister is 15 years old, a sophomore at her highschool, and just called me and announced that she made the varsity dance team! This is a great achievment for her, she has been struggling her weight and self esteem for the last couple years and has had an extremely hard time making friends and participating in anything social. I want to do something special for her for overcoming such an obstacle. Any ideas on how I can show her that she is absolutely amazing?

How many in your family do you support and and how. My husband allots me $240.00 per week to buy food, tp, shampoo, cleanings supplies for ourselves, 2 teenagers and 3 younger kids. This is what I spend it on but he thinks I should have enough to buy myself clothes, and dinners out along with little things like taking one of the kids to a movie or something. Are my priorities wrong? Do I not know how to budget? P.S. I live in California with a higher cost of living. How about you?

My fiancee and I are from opposite sides of town.
He lived 1 hour north of the city and I lived 1 hour south of the city.

When we got serious in our relationship he moved home (and changed jobs) to come closer to me (I have a great job and he wasnt overly happy in his job) and now lives where I am from.

His parents live about 1/2 hour past where he used to live making it about 2 1/2 hours drive from where we both now live.

He has lived out here for just under 2 years now. His parents have not once been out to see him and our house.

We are expected to visit them every 2 - 3 weeks. I have put my foot down and refuse to see them, until they make an effort. While this may seem nasty and unfair on my fiancee I dont see why we have to loose a whole day from our weekend when they wont make any effort?

How do we get them to come and see us?
Am I being harsh / unfair ect on my fiancee?

I am almost 21 and my family still controls my life. I am engaged to an amazing guy who is 26 and just out of the military. The only problem is my family doesn't support my engagement or marriage. So far, they have threated me with money and keep telling me how disappointed they are because I am getting married. I have 3 semesters left of school, I am applying to law school and graduate school and I am not quitting school. I don't understand why they can't just be happy for me? This is not new. My family has been controling my life since I was a kid (obviously) but when will it end? I am very independent and I honestly hate it when my mom says to me that since she is my mother she can do and know whatever she wants with me and my actions just because she is my mother and my grandma is the same way. How do I make it stop and get them to give their blessing so I am not miserable on one of the happiest days of my life???

My 9 yr. old nephew and his friend who is 8 yrs. old came over to play and they went into the backyard and were playing with my grandpa's german sheperd and my dad's baby sheep. It was so cute! Anyways, they came in kind of dirty and I didn't want to send them home that way so I made them get in the tub and helped bathe them. They said they could bathe themselves but I didn't know if they could or not so I wanted to be sure they didn't get hurt or drown. I basically just supervised them and washed their backs and poured a cup of water over them to rinse them off. Well, when my nephews friend's mom found out she called me up and said what I did was inappropriate but I told her I just wanted them to be clean for mommy and daddy. I am a 19 yr. old female so it isn't like I am one of those bad men you hear about. Was I wrong here? It made me cry when she said that and I had to go run into my husband's arms later. He held me and told me not to worry.

My sister's husband died 2 months ago. She was heart broken. And she was 4 months pregnant. It was a sudden depressing moment in our whole families’ lives. 1 month later was the funeral. My sister never showed up. We later learned she was at the hospital, she attempted suicide. She had slit her wrists! And she was pregnant! All of this was not good for our dad. My dad had had a heart attack last year and all this stress was not good for him. Well now my sister is in a mental institution because she is not emotionally stable. Our family fears for her safety and the babies. My other sister is taking this opportunity to do whatever she wants. She is 15 and drinks alcohol. Parties. Never tells our parents where she is. I feel like my sister is being selfish and taking advantage of the situation. What can I do?

My aunt is EXTREMELY OVER BEARING!!!! She does not have any children of her own. She constantly riducules everything in mine and my sisters lives. I cut off almost all contact with her, and then cries to my mom and sisters that I don't like her. She is so uptight and nervous that if something doesn't revolve around her she begins to scream and swear at the people around her like she is a two year old. Don't get me wrong I do love her, but I can't take the constant bickering that she carries on with. With the holidays coming up she will be ten times worse. I know she cares, but I have a wonderful mother I can talk to if I need to. How do I politely tell her that I am adult, not a child and tell her she needs to speak to me with more respect? I do not want to feel this way and I know if I could say something maybe she would realize how she is hurting the people that love her most, and destroying our relationship with one another.

I don't exactly like my family. {This includes aunts, uncles, cousins} It's not that they aren't friendly or anything, but they're just...too loud and obnoxious for me. All they ever do is sit around and talk! And about the most boring stuff!! It probably doesn't help that besides the babies, i'm the youngest one there! They talk about work and college and pots and pans and house stuff..What I would rather be doing, is talking to my Friends about problems and issues that are going on with me and them. Oiy..how am I supposed to handle a family that has interests completely different from mine?
